I have 120GB of storage in my laptop, and before I had to wipe it I had like 55 GB of free space...I just can't see myself needing more.

If you wanted to save $10 you could get the G860 instead of the G2120. Wouldn't be much if any performance loss from what I've seen.
You could also save some money on the power supply. You could probably get by with a 430W or 450W and put the extra money somewhere else if you wanted.Fan of....

As for the PSU, it's on sale for $39.99 and it has an LED fan that matches the ones that come with the case, plus I'd rather get one with a little more power.Comment

Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread
Spoiler
CPU: Intel Pentium G860 3.0GHz Dual-Core Processor ($68.76 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-H61M-DS2 Micro ATX LGA1155 Motherboard ($50.97 @ Newegg)
Memory: Crucial 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($41.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 250GB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($43.99 @ Compuvest)
Video Card: MSI Radeon HD 7750 2GB Video Card ($88.48 @ SuperBiiz)
Case: NZXT Gamma Classic (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case ($34.21 @ Amazon)
Power Supply: Corsair Builder 430W 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX12V Power Supply ($34.99 @ Newegg)
Optical Drive: LG GH24NS95 DVD/CD Writer ($15.99 @ Newegg)
Monitor: Acer G236HLBbd 60Hz 23.0" Monitor ($109.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $489.37
I included a cheap monitor in there as well. In the end it's your choice, but if you wanted to save money the Corsair 430W power supply could have been had on sale for $16.99 and $20.00 after rebate two different times within the past couple months. They had a 600W for $30 around the same time.
I also agree on the hard drive. If you really want to only get 160GB, you might as well take your chances on a refurbished one.
You could also get one of the free operating systems to hold you over until you had the money for Windows if you wanted.Fan of....

I guess hard drive prices are never going to come down completely like they were. I got a 1 TB WD Black hard drive a few years ago for maybe $75.Comment

Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread
You might as well just put the money aside instead of slowly piecing it together. The video card I got dropped $80 permanently in price 3 months after I bought it. So you might as well wait until you can afford to get it all at once. That way you don't buy it, then 3 months later when you go to build it the price has dropped 25% while it sat in your closet.. If anything space it out over a couple of weeks to try and catch most of on sale on Newegg.Comment

Well, there's certain commodities that don't tend to change in base price, are pretty much universal, or change that much in terms of technology, things like power supply, case, ram, optical drive, monitor, HDD. Buy these with little reservation when you find a great deal. You can also buy an aftermarket CPU cooler at this point, as long as you know what CPU you are targeting and that it's compatible.
SSDs can change in both technology and price, but IMO if you see a good model for less than 60 cents a GB, buy it. That would be $70 for 120GB, which was a good deal price when I built my system in august.
CPU and motherboard you should purchase as close to completion as possible, yet don't pass up on a great deal. CPU/MB are the most integral in terms of compatibility, and they also tend to be sold as a bundle to save more money. If you have a Fry's close, go there for CPU/MB, they are easily the cheapest place I found to buy a CPU/MB when I was building mine, I could have saved $100+ even though I got a really good deal at Newegg.
Last thing you should buy is GPU, mostly because the "deals" for GPUs tend to include games and games depreciate quick, the game you get free with your GPU today you might be able to buy for $25 a couple months later. Plus, when it comes down to it, you can build a system and use it if your CPU has an integrated GPU, get everything installed and configured if you have to wait a couple weeks for a deal to recycle back around.Comment

Start with a case, lol. Burns11's post is really spot on except that personally, I'd say wait to get an aftermarket cooler after you chose a CPU and after you decide whether or not you'll be doing any overclocking initially. Because if you're not going to be overclocking, the stock cooler on your CPU will be fine.
I know it's intimidating but you're not going to see how easy it really is until you do it. Do you have a general idea of what you want to spend? We can help you look around for parts.Last edited by trobinson97; 03-16-2013, 04:12 PM.PS: You guys are great.
