Pretty good one tonight. It was great to go back down memory lane and remember how great Bo was. Still doesn't touch the ones Billy Corben has done though (Broke, The U)."If you have a linebacker on him, you might as well start singing their fight song." -- WSU coach Bill Doba on Reggie Bush

Re: ESPN 30 for 30 Discussion Thread
Terriffic documentary.
A true "what if" story. He could have been a HOFer for both sports if he had 3-4 more years. He wasnt in his prime yet. Such a classy and humble guy. Alot of players would have been more angry or lives would have turned for worse after having their career tooken away from him.
We will never see an "athlete" like that ever again. A 4.12 40 yard dash at 220 is ridiculousComment

Yeah, "Broke" was a terrific story. Even as a "regular guy", it is something that everyone should watch and learn from.Comment

I was pumped to see Tecmo Bowl get a shout, though I'm relatively certain they were referring to original Tecmo Bowl while showing Tecmo Super Bowl clips.

Real solid piece overall. He truly was like a super hero. I was born in '84 so that era was right in my wheelhouse in terms of hearing incredible stories of him running on walls and throwing a ball to home plate on the fly from the warning track. He-Man, Ninja Turtles, Bo Jackson.Last edited by VDusen04; 12-09-2012, 01:19 AM.Comment

Re: ESPN 30 for 30 Discussion Thread
Yeah. It was a good one. I never really realized just how huge of a deal Bo was. I knew he was big... but I didn't know that he was that big. A lot of that is due to the fact that I was born in '93, when Bo was on the downward side of his career. Though I do still resent him for winning that Heisman over Iowa's Chuck Long.Last edited by mb625; 12-09-2012, 01:54 AM.MLB: Minnesota Twins

Re: ESPN 30 for 30 Discussion Thread
That makes it more special. 6'1 230 and packed my muscles and run a 4.12.
That run up the wall was insane and he made it seem like it was nothing. Imagine if he wasnt splitting carries or was a everyday starter for Royals, even still playing 2 sports. He would have been a legend.
He is still known, but career/s was so brief that it didnt seem like it happened. Ask a casual football fan who Barry Sanders or Walter Payton was, and they would known who they was. Ask them about Bo Jackson, they would probably heard about him. But, never known what type of athlete he was. Heck, I didnt know he ran the fastest 40 in the combine.
I agree with him saying that he didnt have any regrets. You cant blame him acting on his instincts by not going out of bounds or fighting for extra yards. That is what made him special, not shying away from contact. I can see why doesnt really watch football. He probably doesnt want to think "what if".Last edited by illwill10; 12-09-2012, 02:36 AM.Comment

Very very good episode. I was born in 1980 and I remember Bo Jackson moreso for Tecmo Bowl and the "Bo Knows" commercials than his actual playing.
Deion Sanders is the first name that comes to mind when I hear 2 sport athlete.Comment

"Stuck" behind Marcus Allen(I still think that Davis resented him for not dropping BB altogether to be "a Raider" and that was his punishment....not taking anything away from MA....a HOF running back and awesome in his own right) and his yards per carry was 5.4.(I realize this is in limited attempts.)
3 of his 4 years he had the longest run from scrimmage.
As for baseball......I might get some negative response from this...but I saw the man play for 3 years(he played longer at Auburn...but I left college a year earlier than he...I did not attend Auburn...but another school that played against them) and he might have had the best arm EVER in baseball.
ABSOLUTE CANNON....with near perfect accuracy. The claims of him being the best athlete....are not overdone.

Funny how we had an extrovert introvert thread recently because he seems to be an introvert the way his interviews and the way people talk about him.
Bo was big time when I was a kid. Don't really remember watching him play but he was everywhere. Used to love that cartoon with him, Jordan and Gretzky.
I also remember we had a house rule that you can't be the raiders or the bears in tecmo bowl. LolComment

Re: ESPN 30 for 30 Discussion Thread
I didn't get to watch all of this, but I did see bits and pieces and it looks really well done. Bo was a monster and probably the best 'athlete' any of us have seen.
I do think he was a better football player than baseball player. He was still very raw as a baseball player, mainly because he started so late. I don't think he would have been a HOF'r on the diamond (poor strike zone judgement), but if he stayed healthy and played full time football I don't think that's a question at all.
Can't wait to catch this one in it's entirety next time..."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring." - Rogers HornsbyComment
