    Not the same at all.

Let's say the store pays $.40 for a $1 bag of chips. You are then costing the store $.40 to replace that bag of chips. They lose $.40 because of it.

Going back to the same scenario I have been using. If I pirate a $1 song of someone ****ty like Lil Wayne. I am not costing Lil Wayne $1 because I got the song off a P2P. He is never going to get a single dollar off of me. So I either have the song and not pay $1, or I don't have the song and not pay $1. If it wasn't available to me for free, then I just wouldn't get it. Which as I said before, is probably the same for 95% of people who have gotten music for free.

If lil Wayne is ****ty and you wouldn't pay for it or wouldn't have gotten it if you can't get it for free then why did you download it? That's not a very good example of people downloading things illegally.

I download music frequently. I've never lost a second of sleep over it. Ben Folds is my favorite artist. Had I not downloaded his music a few years ago, I may not have been near as big a fan, or a fan at all. Now, I've bought every album, Ben Folds Five and his solo stuff, on both CD and vinyl, I've gone to three of his shows and bought several shirts. I've also already put $50 in preorders for BF5's new album on CD, Vinyl, and an early download through their crowd funding project. None of this would have happened had I not downloaded his stuff. Could I have found it on my own later? Sure, but it was great being able to listen to all of it at once. This was before Spotify, and I barely even use it now. When I find an artist I love, I support them. I've spent hundreds of dollars on my favorite bands, and many of them were discovered after downloading their album because I heard a single or something.

Because it helps to have current top 40 mainstream music on your iPod. Also when I was a teenager and liked music that and actually listened to it I didn't have the money to spend. So it was either get it for free, or not get it at all.

I also wonder what % of people who pirate are teenagers who don't have the means to pay for it anyways? There is another example of people who would never be able to buy the music in the first place.

Does the adult film industry plan to sue Limewire as well? I ask because that was my primary "use" for Limewire....

Re: RIAA claims Limewire owes them $72 trillion

I'm not trying to sound condescending, but I find it funny that everyone has their own angle on why it's okay to steal all the music they want.

You know why I do it?

Because it's easy as ****, and there is little to no risk involved.

That's really the main reason people do anything, isn't it? I'm sure as hell not going to do anything illegal I can't count on getting away with.

It's not going be this way forever. We're basically in the Wild West stage of the internet right now. I'm going to enjoy it while it lasts, because just like the real Wild West, I know the government is on its way.

There's no point BSing myself into thinking this isn't stealing. It's ****ing stealing guys... There's really no two ways about it. I'm sure if I made my living in the music industry, I'd be pissed. But I don't, and I'm just happy to have all this free entertainment.

I remember reading an article where the adult film industry was asking for a bailout because of the economy and piracy.

It's just as wrong to let someone borrow a movie or book. You are costing the publisher and movie studio that extra sale.

No they're going after the users themselves. Got court orders for users unique IP's and all that so they can sue the individuals.

Man that's gotta be one awkward law suit for people being sued.

Thank you. No one is downloading free music to become some personal hero against the RIAA. People do it because they don't want to pay for it.

How? There's one unique copy being lent out, which is presumably already paid for. The borrower isn't making a copy of theirs and then distributing, instead they're taking their own copy and letting people use it for a short period of time.
