With "Iron Man Three" already destroying box office records around the world and inspiring fans across America to brave huge lines and packed theaters, the folks at Disney and Marvel are no doubt in full-on party mode. But while things couldn't be better at the moment, one very dark cloud looms on the horizon: the prospect that Robert Downey Jr. has donned the Iron Man armor for the last time.
So will Downey Jr. return for "Iron Man 4"? Or is this the end of Iron Man as we know it?
Sure, that may sound like a crazy idea, but rumors have been swirling for months now that Downey, Jr. will in fact be leaving the Marvel fold. And these rumors have a pretty credible source: Downey Jr. himself.
"Right now I don’t have a contract to do anything, and I did for the last five years," Downey Jr. told GQ recently. "How many genre movies can I do? How many follow-ups to a successful follow-up are actually fun?"
Then Gwyneth Paltrow threw even more fuel on the fire when she told Geek Nation that "I don't think there's going to be [an 'Iron Man 4']. I think we're done with 'Iron Man.'"
Marvel's response? No problem, we'll just recast everybody if we have to.
"I hope Downey makes a lot of movies for us as Stark," Marvel's movie guru Kevin Feige told MovieWeb. "If and when he doesn't, and I'm still here making these movies, we don't take him to Afghanistan and have him wounded again. I think we James Bond it."
All those dire warnings have led to many to begin speculation over who might take over the role. But now, Downey Jr. is backtracking, telling Empire in a recent interview that "the only thing I ever let go of had claw marks in it."
"There's a little bit of soul reclamation going on," he added. "I feel that the first time I played Tony, I did it best. Sorry! The affinity with Tony now is: How do you sustain something? I'm not stupid, I like to play ball, I love the company, I love the character, and the business side of things, I'm not to picky about that either."
Which may explain why "Iron Man Three" director Shane Black is so sure that Downey Jr. will be back for "Iron Man 4" and even "Iron Man 5." "There has been a lot of discussion about it: 'Is this the last Iron Man for Robert?' Something tells me that it will not be the case, and he will be seen in a fourth, or fifth," said Black, according to Screen Rant. "But I can be a little excited."
Robert Downey Jr. coming back for "Iron Man 4"? Now that's enough to get any fan excited. Here's hoping.Comment

Re: Iron Man 3
I like the movie a lot, not as much I thought I would though, because
SpoilerI absolutely, completely, totally disagree with the decision to make Kingsley a fake Mandarin. In my opinion they should have played that character straight instead of going for the laughs and making him a buffoon.Spoiler
Agreed. The twists didn't seem nearly as serious or heavy as they were, seemingly, intended to be. Its weird, but I loved Kingsley performance and the "actor" twist was pretty fresh and radical, but they didn't do anything with it. There wasn't much depth in the film after the first 30 minutes.
I liked the kid. He did well in the role and it was nice that they slowed the movie down for 10 minutes to let the story catch up with the action.
I did enjoy Pepper kicking ***. That helped take the sting out of Black Widow being left out of the end of Avengers.
I'm in the minority, but I miss Howard. I know he doesn't fit the typical "gung-ho" over-masculine military leader role, but that's what I liked about him.
The ending felt really corny to me with the VO dialogue resolution-solution to two problems - one of each seems like it would have been major character development and symbolic and gotten much more focus and build.
Thought it was just "OK." Not on the same level as IM1 or Avengers, but it was enjoyable for what these movies are I guess. I didn't think the 3D was worth the extra $$$ and the FPS shots were a little disorienting to me, but I never like those shots in movies.

Re: Iron Man 3
SpoilerThe twist itself made sense in both movies, but neither were executed very well. I felt like Bane was a stronger character and more developed than the Mandarin and Killian.
Kingsley's performance was great, but overall I felt like it undermined the twist a little bit.

Re: Iron Man 3
Saw the movie yesterday, matinee rules. Humm don't know exactly how to express my feelings. The movie was definitely better than the previous one, iron man 2, however I didn't find it all that spectacular.
Spoilermaybe it's the forced comedy, I'm sort of over it now. The movie doesn't have to be ubber serious or anything, but man do they over do the gags too much. I like Robert Downey and he's played the role well, but his character bothers me now. He's so nonchalant about everything. .....and has a joke for every situation, no matter the severity of the situation.
Now, the Mandarin. .......WTF, I can laugh about it now, but it sort of angered me during the movie. The commercials and made him look and sound amazing! !!!!! His demeanor and voice rivaled the enemies in the recent batman movies. Then to find out he's only a cover. ....sort of depressing. I understand how Guy pierces character was the true Mandarin. ..but it was a sad shocker.
Overall I liked the movie, was just expecting moreComment

Re: Iron Man 3
SpoilerNeutering the Mandarin like that was a terrible decision. They had a nice set up going, with Tony having to come to grips with aliens and beings like Thor. That could have played really well if he was matched up against a true Mandarin, with the power rings. Lost opportunityXBL: Mean Greene

I thought the movie was good. I mean, as someone who seen IM1, (skipped 2,) the Avengers and DKR, read SOME the comics, yeah, I thought similarly to others, very high expectations. What I think has already been said by some of the spoilers in others posts.
Edit: forgot this
Spoilerbattle scene with all the suits battling the high temp enemies = amazing. But the last one with the wife just blasting "Mandarin," damn. If i watched it in 3D, I think I would've liked that scene more. But I think it felt like more Michael Bay. (Just kidding.)Last edited by MarvinOida; 05-11-2013, 12:27 AM.Xbox 360 Rosters:

Re: Iron Man 3
It was good, until...
SpoilerPotts fell. Then it could not have been more obvious if a train bust through the screen carrying a sign that said "POTTS IS NOT DEAD", and the conductor came out and kissed your girl. They didn't even try to hide or do some misdirection from it. Throughout the whole final fight I was just waiting on Potts to come and save the day, and sho nuff.
I mean there wasn't even the "HOW" factor. It was just "oh".
Other than that, I liked it.And may thy spirit live in us, Forever LSU

Re: Iron Man 3
Saw it tonight..
Like many of you I feel the same way afterwards, but I did enjoy the movie. For a second I thought Stark was going all James Bond
Honestly though, knowing the cartoons and stories behind Mandarin and Extremis which arent even the same story.... I was left wondering how they could do that and feel good about itComment
