Went and seen it tonight. Damn did they ever drop the ball here. They had a great story lined up and solid new characters/actors AND a potentially great villain but they went and ****ed it all up. I really think this could have been on The Dark Knight's level.

The Mandarin twist was incredibly dumb. They traded off everything they were building up for the first hour and a half or so for some cheap laughs. It was awful. What made it even worse was that Ben Kingsley was doing an amazing job up to that point.

Speaking of cheap laughs, a lot of the comedy bits weren't even all that great and felt forced a lot of times. There were some good ones (the banter with the kid, Mark 42 crashing and falling apart in the final battle, etc) but a lot of what was meant to be funny just wasn't IMO.

The Extremis thing was alright. For whatever reason I wasn't a big fan of how the people using it looked and the fire breathing thing by Killian was kind of over the top. I'm not all that familiar with the comics though so I don't know how the storyline was intended to be.

The action scenes were really good of course. The destruction of Tony's house was probably the highlight of the movie. I wasn't really sure how to feel about Pepper getting involved in the action as much as she did though. I guess it's better than having her be a Mary Jane-like damsel in distress all the time.

I really liked all the throwbacks to The Avengers and how it affected Tony. I thought that was one thing they actually executed really well, and like others have mentioned, it would have made even more sense to not have that stupid Mandarin twist because of this.

All in all I thought it was decent. Definitely didn't live up to my expectations and I wouldn't rank it up there with the upper class of superhero movies (The Dark Knight trilogy, Spider-Man, Batman '89, Iron Man 1, hopefully Man of Steel, etc). However I don't feel like it was bad by any means. I just think that one twist in particular was a huge mistake that ruined a potentially great movie.

The thing that drives me crazy about the twist is that while Kingsley's performance is amazing, but taking the gravitas out of the seriousness of the whole operation is what kills it. Its like they think its so clever that they have to keep elbowing you in the ribs and going "huh? how'd ya like that?" Its fun to watch Kingsley the rest of the film in that 180 degree mind-set, but its just another place that they could have taken to another level, but they just left it there.

All the anxiety stuff never really meant much and the glossed over ending are things that kind of stick out to me. The action is nice and the comedy is okay. I actually thought the interaction with the kid was great even if the character himself served no real purpose.

Wife and i are watching tomorrow night and want to see if it's worth the extra $$.

I saw it in 3D for free (office outing), and it was fine. I'm not a big fan of 3D though, and if I was paying for my own ticket, I would go 2D.

Saw it in 3D. Nothing was too spectacular except the "barrel of monkeys" scene (you'll know what that is when you see it). Normally that's a good thing though. Intrusive 3D normally makes for a lackluster 2D viewing.

Personally, I think 3D is worth it on most animated movies but take away from live-action. I didn't "notice" 3D too many times other than the FPS scenes. I didn't think it was worth the extra $$$.

This just popped in my mind, maybe someone can answer it for me,

He removed the core that prevented the strips of metal from ripping his heart apart.

Did he do that in the Extremis comic? And wtf, if he could of done that, why didn't he do that back at the end of movie 1 or in movie 2 since his core thing was such a big part of the second movie???
