Re: The "Did You Know?" Thread
Another Dukes Of Hazzard did you know. Did you know The Dukes Of Hazzard (creator Guy Waldron) was based off a 1975 film entitled "MoonRunners" also created by Waldron (you can find it on YouTube. The movie MoonRunners was about 2 cousins Grady and Bobby Lee (Bo and Luke) who ran bootleg whiskey for their Uncle Jessie in Shiloh County.
The County Boss Jake Rainey (Boss Hogg), a friend of Jesse's from the old days (they both bootlegged for Jesse's father in 1934), who owns the local bar/brothel (The Boars Nest). Jake has control of all the other moonshine in the county, and sells it to the New York Syndicate (mob). He needs Jesse's supply to fill an order, but Jesse will not sell to Jake since Jake would mix it with lesser quality liquor.
To get at Jesse’s supply, Jake uses Sheriff Rosco Coltrane (yes they kept Roscoe in the Dukes), to harass the cousins. At the same time he uses Zeebo, and Reba (Jake’s wife who is having an affair with Grady) to goad the boys into a trap. During these events, Uncle Jesse calls Jake "hog" (effectively making Jake "Boss Hogg") as a put-down. After Uncle Jesse passes away after attempting to make a moonshine run, the cousins, who are on probation, and cannot own guns, (just like in the Dukes Bo and Luke was on probabtion and could not own firearms) use a bow with explosive arrows to put Jake Rainey's moonshining factory out of business.
Waylon Jennings was the Balladeer for both MoonRunners and The Dukes Of Hazzard and wrote Good Ol Boy's for the television series.
Both the TV series and Movie was penned from memories of true life events that Guy Waldron saw or heard stories of growing up in Kentucky.Last edited by Happy29; 08-22-2012, 07:29 PM.“Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.”

I knew that about the TV show being based on that movie. How good is the movie BTW? I've been meaning to check it out for some time now.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

I'm sure it's sad to say but I'm a Dukes Of Hazzard knowledge base, I know just about all there is to know about my favorite show. I even have a Dixie horn on my 2009 Dodge Challenger.

Re: The "Did You Know?" Thread
The Baltimore Orioles are the only team in major league history to be involved in back to back games in which a player hit three homeruns. On Wednesday, August 22, 2012 the Texas Rangers' Adrian Beltre hit three homeruns against them and on August 24, 2012 Baltimore's Chris Davis hit three against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Re: The "Did You Know?" Thread
The families last name was Wilkerson.
It was only used once in the show's pilot.
The last name was never spoken aloud and it was a running joke on the show to not use it but in the show's pilot Francis calls his mom from school and he is wearing a name tag that says Francis Wilkerson. And now you know.....ND Season Ticket Holder since '72.Comment

Re: The "Did You Know?" Thread
Just listened to the latest Jay Mohr podcast with Charlie Sheen. What a fun listen! Back to the thread topic.....DYK that Tom Berringer went to method acting while on set for 'Platoon' as Sgt. Barnes? Sheen say's he was Sgt. Barnes throughout filming 24/7 and that at the time he was going thru a divorce and used that as his motivation.Comment

Re: The "Did You Know?" Thread
I know when the older brother joined the army he used a fake name to get in. Also one of the brothers used the neam Nolastname once and at Malcolm's Graduation when they said his last name you could not hear it,the crowd got very loud and hence you couldnt hear them say his last name.ND Season Ticket Holder since '72.Comment
