    No idea.

People are taking the "lens flare" from Star Trek thing to the max.

Super 8 was good. Star Trek was a good movie. The next Star Trek looks good. He had a big had in creating some awesome TV shows (Alias, Lost, Fringe). Mission Impossible III was iffy. He also wrote the screenplay for Armageddon (and Joy Ride, but, well, yeah). And he's been a Producer or EP on a lot of things, but those don't really count because there's no telling how big of a hand he had in them.

Literally see nothing there that screams "talentless hack," but hey, that's why people are allowed to have different opinions.

I can't remember now where I saw this, but I once read a piece that stated that Lost was a perfect metaphor for Abrams career: it starts off with a bang, draws you in with all sorts of cool and mysterious ideas - and then the smoke monster shows up. Pretty soon you realize that cool start was all the writers had, and that they have no idea where to go with what they started. In the end, the "mystery box" they drew you on with turns out to be empty.

That's Abrams in a nutshell:"Sound and fury signifying nothing".

I think Abrams is about as good of a director as you could get to bring into this franchise and modernize it again.

For as much as I like the original trilogy, Lucas bombed on his prequel trilogy. I think Abrams has a different style that will really fit Star Wars and am very excited to see his work on this new series.

I always thought that he did good work modernizing a dying franchise with Star Trek. I thought that style made it more Star Wars like. So I'm glad he's going to get his shot with a universe that fits his style like a glove.

          Very excited.

One thing I like with Star Trek was how the film was built up story wise, I think with good writing this movie will be fantastic.

While i'm not the biggest fan of the direction Star Trek has taken I will give credit where it's due. Abrams has at the very least given it a modern feel and has made the characters accessible to a wide audience again. I just don't like how it's more of an action oriented franchise in his hands. Star Wars does fit his style perfectly and I can see his iteration of the SW franchise do huge business at the box office.

The man was born to do Star Wars IMO and I eagerly await to see what he can do with it.

I can see why people would hate Abrams for his style in Star Trek, because it's not all about ship battles and what not. Abrams definitely is more action based than exploration/thinking man's movie.

But he definitely fits in Star Wars more. But really, as long as we don't recast a lead character that has the emotional range of a robot, there is no way I can hate these new movies.

This is not Luke's father's Empire anymore.
I wish The Mouse would make Shadows of the Empire into Disney's first
Star Wars movie. I really don't want to see movies about Han & Leia's kids,
                    not yet anyway.
I'd love to see Prince Xizor on the big screen. I'd even rather see the Thrawn
Trilogy made before anything else in the Star Wars universe, though
I know a lot of fans wouldn't want anyone else to play Han Luke & Leia
other than the original three, but it wouldn't bother me at all.
Of course, I enjoyed the three prequels, so what do I know.
Maybe Josh Brolin as an older Han Solo. That or Christopher Walken lmao

I wouldn't mind a recast either, as long as they keep the characters true to who they were.

Some movies just need to be left alone. SW is one of them. I still believe Lucas is from the future. lol

I've had numerous idiotic people tell me that Star Wars takes place in the distant future.

                                Anyone else had this problem?
