Re: World War Z
I tend to believe this is more of the "zombie" we would be facing should there in fact be a zombie outbreak of some kind.. And scientists that share hypothetically describe this sort of zombie in World War Z.
Because basically, the most likely to happen is for there to be an outbreak which messes the human mind up - Think RABIES evolving and doing to humans what it does to animals. Pumped up on adrenaline with no other instinct but to be aggressive... That is a lot more likely to happen then people coming back as "walkers"
I can't hate on this movie because it seems legitimate, moreso than zombies like in the Walking Dead. At the same time, I can't hate on Walking Dead because it's an excellent show and those kind of zombies work in that environment.Comment

Re: World War Z
True, 28 days later like.
But it's not like 28 Days later is the first to come with fast rabid zombies either - But a great movie nonetheless. All zombie movies are basically just like each other -- Infection, people get infected, people kill people, a group tries to survive...
They're all pretty much the same just comes down to what kind of zombies we'll be dealing with. I'll give World War Z a shot because of that fact.Comment

The source novel makes it abundantly clear that the Zacks are *not* "fast zombies". If you're going to change something that fundamental to the author's premise you had better have a damn good reason for doing so. As far as I can tell the only reason for this change is that some empty suit in Hollywood saw how much money the 28 Days films made and decided that fast zombies (via poor CGI work) were the way to go.
The filmmakers have also chosen to ignore the "average Joe faces the apocalypse" multiple POV approach that was the central theme of the novel. That's akin to making a theatrical film version of Game of Thrones that focuses solely on Daenerys' story to the exclusion of all else. You could probably make a fairly entertaining movie that way, but only at the cost of sacrificing the very thing that makes the books interesting in the first place.Comment

That's all fine and dandy, but it misses the point.

If the movie makers wanted to make a movie with fast zombies that can climb fortress walls by forming a wave, that's great. But don't put the name World War Z on it, because that name is associated with a specific type of zombie story which is completely unlike this one.Comment

Re: World War Z
Wasn't Max Brooks signed on to this Flick? Did he sign off on the change to fast zombies?
I remember when I first saw it, and was like, WTF? Are those things running?
Totally against a major premise of the book, but still looks pretty cool.GT: Event Horizon 0Comment

Nah. He pretty much knows that once he sold the movie rights to his book that Hollywood would do whatever they wanted with it, whether they had his approval or not. So he just let them do whatever. He doesn't really care for movies.Comment
