Looking forward to this, I didn't watch the first until this past Summer but I was really impressed with how good it was.

Did you see/like the 2009 version? Depending on your answer, what is it that turns you off about this sequel?

Haven't seen the trailer, and will try to avoid it if at all possible. I'll definitely be seeing it, though.

I'm really on the fence with this one. Liked the way they handled the 1st movie but it sure did have some goofy plot holes.

The Star Trek universe is supposed to have a conscious and the show always had a hidden message within the plot. It wasn't just space fighting. This one looks like your run of the mill superhuman villain vowing havoc on earth looking for revenge. Like almost every comic book movie plot made in the last decade. Star Trek has always been more than that. The 1st one really didn't have it but it was an origins movie so it gets a pass for that.

If this new one is just simply a straight up action movie with a generic plot just to show off the CGI then Abrams is really missing the whole essence of Star Trek.

This. Trailer looked like Star Trek vs Bane.

Also I hated the 2009 movie, it was Star Trek with a glossy CG varnish and a ****load of lens flare where the soul should be.

Seymour got it right. It seems like they're channeling the Nolan Batman movies and well....Star Trek is a LOT different than that. Where's the technobabble and the sciency stuff in this? Where's the heart and soul and hidden message within the story? It seems like this is all punchy kick kabloey.

I have a feeling a ton of Trekkies' heads are exploding right now from frustration/anger.

                    At least I'll be happy.

Then again, for everyone's sake, they should just name these films something else so it doesn't interfere with what it could have been.

Well it's just a minute teaser so there is still plenty left to show probably, the point is to get you roped in. Anything else probably won't get the average viewer intrigued.

Sign of the times. The current movie market wants action, explosions, shoot outs and CGI. Look at all the movies that had a lot of talking and hidden messages in them trying to make people think. They all bombed in the movie theater the past 3 years.

Hell if Star Trek The Next Generation came out on tv right now in today's world of instant gratification, it would have been canceled 3 episodes in.

I dunno, War Horse, Lincoln, Skyfall and other movies like that have done pretty well in the box office but I guess those are outliers.

Have ya seen the original series? Substitute lens flare for bad 2D light effects and William Shatner's clinic in cheesy acting for the soul ... and sit back and enjoy the ride!

Watched the The Wrath of Khan the other day on Netflix and started watching the original series on it too. I thought the trailer looked pretty good. As I loved the remake, i'm sure i'll love this one as well.
