Re: Star Trek Into Darkness
SpoilerI got it spoiled for me. But I don't mind. It explains his "super" abilities and apparently the performance is OUTSTANDING from Cumberbatch. Really menacing. Lives up to the Khan name and out does it in some ways.Comment

Re: Star Trek Into Darkness
Just saw the movie. I think it's definitely better than Star Trek. Better developed baddie, more of Kirk and Spock's psychology and friendship. Cumberbatch is that dude - which makes me want to get started on Sherlock pronto.
Now granted, I've only seen the Picard Star Treks, but I did get a kick out of...
SpoilerKHAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!! They also twisted the situation around a bit, which is a nice touch for the alternate timeline.
We also get to...
Spoilersee Klingons. Which basically sets up what 3 should be about.Last edited by Leon; 05-15-2013, 10:34 AM.Comment

Re: Star Trek Into Darkness
The Professional Critics (since the reviews are pouring in all over the web) need to remember that the TOS crew was a group of Vets whose most exciting days were behind them, thus the focus on using their intelligence more often than not to solve problems. But don't get it twisted, they were OGs who could always "throw down" if they had to. Point is, fans of TOS like me have always wanted to see what that VET group would have looked like in action when they were young and at their fittest and fiercest, and that's what JJ delivers. No one in their 20's acts like they do when they in their late 40's and 50's. Funny how people want 25 year old Kirk and Spock to act like their 40-plus year old counterparts.Unofficial OS Ambassador of "CPU vs. CPU"

Re: Star Trek Into Darkness
I'm excited now for this. I saw the first one with my buddies at the movies and we liked it. This one hasn't caught my eye until I just finished BBC's Sherlock, and coming to a realization that Cumberbatch, who plays Sherlock is the bad guy in this movie. The guy is an amazing actor and all the reviews are raving about his performance and role.
Some colleagues of mine are going to go see it Tuesday at matinee prices, pretty excited nowComment

Re: Star Trek Into Darkness
I really enjoyed Into Darkness, the call backs were nicely done. The plot it thinner then the 1st movie but there was more action in this one. The movie could have gone two ways and I like how it ended but I would have preferred if it ended like I wanted.SpoilerI wanted Kahn to be marooned on a dead plant, fill in the gap from the original movies and have the 3rd flick be more like the 2nd of the original.I've heard this "patience is a virtue" junk all my life. I'm happy to say I have no virtue, no scruples, and no desire to wait too long for anything. In my humble opinion instant gratification takes too long!

Re: Star Trek Into Darkness
The boxed set movies (original and next generation) are on sale on Amazon.
The original motion picture series is $35.
Next Generation is $30
The series still remain overpriced.

Just because it was thinner IMO doesn't mean it wasn't good. I enjoyed it thoroughly, but in the end it's still a JJ Abrams film.I've heard this "patience is a virtue" junk all my life. Re: Star Trek Into Darkness
Just came back from this and it was very well done. I don't like Cumberbatch with the whole Sherlock thing, but he plays menacing very well. This will not disappoint Trekkies and non-Trekkies alike.
There was even a small table on the way down the hallway to the theater where these guys set up a "Join the Star Trek Club" table. It was quite sad to see 50+ yo men dressed in the uniforms. I almost wanted to go over to the guy dressed in red and beg him to change his shirt...if anything for his own safety!Comment
