I'm gonna go see this by myself tonight. Between people on vacation, some already seeing this, me not wanting to pay to take my girlfriend, and work I really have no other choice. It'll probably be better this way.

I prefer to see all movies by myself before seeing them with friends/family.

It made 100 million dollars worldwide so far and if Godzilla does well next year, I would expect a PR2.

Ha, no. She usually asks me if I want something.

ANYway,

Movie is badass straight up and down, pure and simple. Its straight-forward and doesn't get bogged down by...well really anything. The character actors are amazing. Papa Luther Bell, Jax, Charlie, the badguy from season 1 of the Hour, Hellboy, etc. It may be corny at times, but this is probably the ultimate comic-book movie despite the fact its an original IP. Battle scenes were amazing with a lot of crucial and pretty creative shots involved.

Hands down the best scene

is when the mach 3 is striding through downtown Hong Kong lugging the battleship behind it. Just badass as hell.

Hunnam grabs Elba's arm. Elba gives him this look and I could feel everybody in the theatre go You've f***ed up now Jax.

Anyone else wait for Hunnam to call for Samcro the entire movie. Haha

Saw this today and I echo everyone else. A blueprint for action films. Have to see it again in 3d or IMAX.

EDIT: Saw it today in IMAX. What an experience.

Seriously, this movie trumps the whole transformers movies so hard. Sure there is some goofiness among the two scientists, but I can overlook that. I agree with Fresh Tendrils that whole scene with the boat sword is amazing. I liked the part when the kaiju screamed with rage and then took off sprinting towards the jaeger and then the jaeger sprinted toward the kaiju and dropped the double ax handle on his head, I was like oh ****!!!

One more thing I really liked about the very end was that they didn't kiss. Just a simple hug. I loathe when movies force a kiss at the end to try to tie a folksy bow on the top.

For the trials they are incorporating martial arts to supposedly weed out who is battle ready, but in the actual battle, the robots are basically doing school yard brawlin'. So then what's the point of showing off your martial arts skills?
