Jurassic World (2015)

Not touching the original, but certainly better than the previous two. I was pleasantly surprised. Basically how I pictured a 2015 Jurassic movie to look and the characters were solid (for the most part)

Just came back from it. Personally, I thought it was awesome. There was a bit of a predictability factor, but I think there is absolutely nothing wrong with it given all that it was able to do.

Basically, it did two things greatly: it respected the original film and it respected the dinosaurs. It certainly shied away from any "less is more" concept though and CGI is still my number one complaint from an otherwise fun flick (and admittedly there really wasn't a way to do animatronics for the way they shot the movie), but it was fun and I was a little kid smiling in my seat quite often for what they gave us.

While driving home, I really thought that they gave us a story that worked for the modern age, and the park they created was just tremendous. Very ingenious work done for this.

I may be in the minority, but although I'm not tired out of Jurassic Park films, I really don't think they could create another film that would not have a story that would just aggravate most fans. I think they should nail in the coffin and go out on a high note, because I think they did exactly that.

I did not see this in 3D, by the way.

I thought it was really good too. I'd be cool if this was a one off. For me, I actually enjoy it just as much, if not a little more than the original. Unpopular opinion, I'm sure. But I really dug this one.

Seems like the hype around the movie had been dying down going into the premiere....but I see a lot of people giving positive reviews

The "trained raptors weren't as bad as some people thought they would be. Really it was just Pavlov's Raptors. Even in the training pen they went after him.

Yup, I had no problem with the trained raptors. There was a little too much nobility going on with all of the other dinosaurs though (the T-Rex having a mutual understanding after Blue saved his life), but the sociability I think helps sell it a little bit. The dinosaurs certainly had personality, though. I choked up during the dying Apatosaurus scene and as the one raptor blew up from the rocket.

Now, this film wasn't flawless or whatever, but what I'm going to point out aren't flaws per se... they were more of "If they were able to stretch this film out any longer, this is what they should have done."

- No sympathy for Zara being swallowed by the Masosaurus. No one cared for her. Give us a reason to like her.

- The kids sure got some screen time and their relationship had a foundation, but it really wasn't built well enough. I didn't really understand the older kid (was that one Zach?) and his deal with his girlfriend, these other girls he's trying to penetrate with his eyes, etc. I couldn't tell if he really loved his little brother or not, what would come of their futures with their parents should the divorce really go through, etc. Kind of was a slippery-slope with resolution for what would come of them.

- More Dr. Wu, or more speak of "should" versus "could" again. This guy was from the original JP and I would have liked to see what came of his intentions for this park. Lowery was a great character which allowed us to have a little bit of "at least if we do this, make it more like the old JP," but the fact that this employee is well aware of the attacks on the first park must mean there are some serious NDAs these guys needed to sign. I would have liked to hear a few more morality tales and threats along the way with this in mind.

- Probably my biggest problem with the film is the same one I had with The Dark Knight Rises: the presence of other civilians did not serve as a major character for the film. In BB and TDK, Gotham served as a voice for character motivations; this was no longer apparent in TDKR, and I did not feel like Batman was owing anyone 'this' or 'that' by returning to the city. Same thing happened here: there were nearly 22,000 people in attendance at the park, and only about five of them had any lines in the film. We never really got to watch others go through their attractions or be wowed at what they saw, even the river rafting scene where we saw Stegosauruses. Anyway, that's neither here nor there.

I'm sure I have plenty more story elements that they could have extended.

There were two scenes that really stuck out to me with the big guy (Indominous?)

First, the trailer/commercial showed the blood dripping on the soldiers arm and I assumed that Indominous would be hovering over him. Instead, we got a complete curveball with the camouflage. Seeing the beast come out from the trees was really well done. Made me wonder why it never used it again.

Also, easily my favorite scene was after the brothers jumped into the waterfall (and who the hell would say they couldn't jump with that thing after you?)

For some reason, the Indominous hunched over peering into the water completely terrified me. The laser focus it had just gave me chills. We've never really seen a dino of that size with the ability to do that. It looked like a raptor in that unique position.

Loved it! Thought the special effects looked great as well. Saw it with both my boys and came home with a bunch of Jurassic World toys where they have been redoing the movie in my family room.

I think some movies are made for fans and some movies are made for critics.

I'm sure art school students can point out a million things wrong with a movie like this but the bottom line is, I feel movies like this are made to entertain people, and it seems to do that very well.

I know what you mean. Those two scenes in particular stood out for me too, in the same ways you were thinking about them as well.

I almost agree that it should have been used again, maybe when the raptors slowed up to find it. However, I think the point was for others to go to Wu and for him to explain that this dinosaur is a hybrid of a bunch of other ones, therefore it can do "this" and "that."

I just finished watching Jurassic World and I didn't think that it was very good at all. It had a few cool moments, but overall I found it to be a pretty boring experience.

Me and the fiance saw it just a couple hours ago, definitely the best blockbuster of the year yet, in my opinion it's ahead of Age Of Ultron easily.

I loved that it had the vibe of the first movie but on a bigger scale with more terror. The Indominous(?) was AMAZING!!!!!!! My goodness, I was wowed at it's innate ability to just be spectacular.

I was afraid that after the two brothers got lost, the movie would then completely center on trying to find them while the Indominous(?) would be after them, glad that wasn't the complete picture.

I wasn't fond of the raptors switching sides so quickly both times like that, but at the end of the day their animals with no true sense of loyalty.

Glad it took three dinos to take out the Indominous(?) though, just showed how powerful she truly was.

I really want a sequel, but I'm afraid of the direction they might go with a sequel. The military dinosaurs proved to be unreliable, i hope they don't go that route again.

And if they do, truly hope its not in the forms of raptors. I love the raptors in all, but there's something special about a 50ft dinosaur chasing you that you don't get from a 9-12ft dino chasing you.

In-conclusion, best movie of the summer so far and hope it gets a sequel

I wasn't fond of the raptors switching sides so quickly both times like that, but at the end of the day their animals with no true sense of loyalty.

I was thinking about this. They might have been chasing the scent, and then when they saw what they were up against they probably thought: "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em." Eventually, they decided their loyalty lies with Owen and Barry, and they would sacrifice their lives for them.

The last part is definitely true, but considering the I-Rex was part raptor, they probably confided in it more while InGen dudes were going to kill it, and they wanted to protect it as they protected their own.

The problem with a sequel are here are the three things that can't happen:

1) A re-opening of the park (that's impossible now).
2) A remake of TLW or JP3 story-wise.
3) Dinos arriving on the US mainland.

I'll of course watch a JW sequel, but I don't think there are any merits to making a sequel with regard to the story, and it would only be on the basis that JW is going to make a **** ton of money in the box-office.
