That would be just as bad, if not worse. "It was all a dream" is a bull**** way to tell a story, this isn't an episode of The Twilight Zone.

I didnt take that to mean it was a dream, like he stated more like Dexter's life flashing before his eyes instead of happening in "real time" so to speak. I think that ending could have been far better but the final season would have to have been completely different for it to work obviously. What we got tonight just wasnt that good and was a very unsatisfying way to end the show and thats unfortunate.

Wow. Just finished watching the finale and it was terrible. Way worse than I had prepared myself for and I was expecting it to be awful.

A great take on the finale and what Dexter had become as a series:

            Re: Dexter (Season 8)

This is the thing I don't get.... The writers spent a majority of the final season making Dexter finally realize that he doesn't have to kill anymore. However, after Deb dies he suddenly decides that he can't be around Hannah/Harrison because he is too much of a danger to them? Is it just me or is that somewhat illogical? If he's not going to kill anymore how are they in danger?

If I would have had my way I would have much rather the final season have been Dex on the run for murdering Laguerta. I hated that no one (Quinn, Batista, etc.) ever really know who/what Dexter really was. That made all of their roles throughout the entire season trivial to me.

Now with that out of the way, since the the writers decided to go with this ending, I think it would have been much better like this:

            a) Dexter ends up going to Argentina and living a normal life - basically a happy ending for Dex.

            or

            b) After it showed him logging, cut to him scouting his next target and the "Tonight's the night" voiceover begins. Dexter can't get away from the monster that he is, so he has to be alone - the non-happy ending

The way they left it, I guess kind of left it up to your own interpretation - the wth ending.

Other than that I would have liked to have seen Ghost Harry one last time in when Dexter "Pulled the Plug" on Deb.

Seriously? the hurricane was strong enough to tear apart his boat yet he could get around in a life raft?

They couldn't have that because they were copying the Sopranos where Tony cut ties with his conscious Dr Melfi on the 2nd last show so there is now way he comes back for the last show and then they copy the ending from One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest where Chief Dexter decides to kill Deb MacMurphy out of mercy. And then last but not least they decide to transform Dexter into the Wolverine.

Beats the heck out of the Seinfeld finale.

So the Masuka daughter storyline was what exactly? Nobody learned Dexter's secret. So many plot holes but I really don't care enough to type them out.

Looking back now Dexter was never a great show. I think Hall's performance as Dexter is much more memorable than the show.

At least they could do a spinoff as Dexter the Lumberjack.
