We've been seeing this type of thing with child celebrities for decades so it's nothing new. The real troubling trend in my opinion is how the line between celebrity and "normal" person has begun to blur. With the influx of Reality TV over the last decade "normal" people grow up thinking that life is this dramatized thing and totally lose scope of reality.

In essence these types of fantasy worlds are becoming the new reality for many people. There's definitely a counterculture to all this but the main stream ideas being pushed on people are definitely twisted. So much artificiality is being fed into the minds of people who's biggest hobby is watching Television.

I see our times now very much like the late 60's in a sense. Where there is a movement being initiated by young adults to shift societal norms back to something more in tune with a naturalistic state of mind. I'm all for that but I just don't know if feasible to make a dent in what has become of our culture.

I see people who are oblivious to the artificiality of their perspectives. I see people who are aware but like a few have mentioned in this thread, just like to see the train wrecks. It's their entertainment so there's no way they're going to help stop it from happening.

I see people who are aware but don't want to be bothered by it, they just try to avoid it and live their lives as they wish to live it (I've been in this category for a few years now). And finally I see the people who see how F'd up things are and dedicate their time to making a difference.

Ever since my wife let me know we were going to have a baby (Due in August) my whole perspective changed, now it wasn't just my world I had to deal with but the world that my son would inherit.

Forgive me guys, for going on this massive rant but it scares the crap out of me to see this disconnect with reality which we so often see with these child stars, trickling down to everyday "normal" people.

Had SUCH a crush on Duff back then. Nice to see her doing well.

As for Bynes and Lohan...ehh, you have the usual celebrity childhood and combine it with a less than ideal family situation, and this is what you're usually going to get. Sad.

Woah now i'll give you Rugrats and Ren/Stimpy cause I loved that ****, but the later 90s and early 00s had good shows. After that it fell off hardcore.
