Re: Orange is the New Black - Netflix Original Series
Was on travel all last week so I watched this whole season. It was really good. It wasnt up to the level of the first season, but I loved the ending.

Re: Orange is the New Black - Netflix Original Series
Yeah, it does.
I could see how it could still be considered an acquired taste, so I'll apologize if you plow through and still aren't feeling it. But I thought the beginning was a lot of character development, and it gets more serious and begins dragging you in a little later. After 6 episodes, my guess is you haven't seen much of her husband yet? If I remember, I think I started to get more hooked around the time his role began to pick up.Comment

Oh don't get me wrong, I am already locked in...and yeah, the husband seems to be more involved lately...
I was just surprised by the comment that there are indeed some darker moments...because I haven't really seen any yet...looking forward to finishing our the season!Comment

Re: Orange is the New Black - Netflix Original Series
I'm about 2/3 of the way through season 1.
The Italian Racist chick is my boo.
Still making that transition from Redheaded Donna to Blackhaired/Pinup Alex. I feel like Donna's role was more suited to her. Something about Alex just comes off weird in the acting.

Re: Orange is the New Black - Netflix Original Series
Just finished the second season and....
Spoiler
I shall call it the "Season of Red". I thought Piper was supposed to be the main character, but it sure seemed like this season mainly revolved around Red. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing.
I agree with others this season was definitely heavy on the drama side. Part of what drew me into the show was that Season 1 had the right mix of drama and comedy. Season 2 the comedy just wasn't there aside from a few lines from Pennsatucky. Also, the characters who were LOL funny (Tasty and Poussey) in Season 1 all played serious roles in Season 2. I guess that character development, but personally I didn't really care for it too much. Vee was an okay character, but far from great to me... but at least the season finale was satisfying. The final scene was great and Caputo/Mendoza stuff was awesome, as well.
Overall, I enjoyed the season and I'm anxious to see what they do for Season 3. I'm not really intrigued by the Piper/Alex stuff and everyone else seems to almost be starting anew. Even though I didn't love Vee's character I would have almost rather her stick around for a little while longer than to have a new "Big Bad" every season. I'm interested to what that do though. I'm hoping it will be more of a dark comedy like Season 1 that a Oz with women like Season 2.

PornStache is such a great villain.
Holy **** I didn't realize he's the same actor who played Nick Sobotka in The Wire in season 2. Damn.Last edited by Fresh Tendrils; 06-27-2014, 03:58 PM.

SpoilerI agree about Tasty and her crew playing the serious roles in this season. They were hilarious in season 1, so it was kind of a bummer that that comedy element was taken out of the show.University of Minnesota Golden Gopher Hockey

He also played a (reoccurring) pretty disturbing criminal in recent Law and Order SVU seasons. He has experience being a creep lol.Comment

Re: Orange is the New Black - Netflix Original Series
Finished up season 1 and watched the first episode of season 2.
Haha, oh Alex. I think my least favorite of part the show is Piper as the lead and her relationship with Alex. At least this wrinkle adds some legitimate drama into the melodrama.

Re: Orange is the New Black - Netflix Original Series
Just finished Season 2 and was surprised by the
Spoilermostly happy ending. Vee was an easy villan to hate, but I'm not sad to see her go (unlike someone like Ben on Lost who I hated, but didn't want to see die).
I felt bad for Caputo - he finally gets his chance to run the prison and all of this crazy stuff happens. I loved how he got the BJ from Figueroa and then told her he already turned her in.
I see Nicky and heroin being a major plot point next season.
Overall, I enjoyed the season, though I prefer Tastee and crew as comic relief. It will be a long wait until June 2015 for Season 3.Comment

Re: Orange is the New Black - Netflix Original Series
I finished up the season last night. I'm leaning in the direction that I enjoyed season 2 slightly more, but overall I would say the two seasons are about equal. The shift in tone didn't really get to me until the last 2 or 3 episodes, but for the most part I felt the show stayed true to what worked in season 1. Hell, I actually enjoyed Piper's involvement this season apart from the last episode which doesn't give me much hope for liking her next season.
Spoiler
I thought Vee was pretty one dimensional and while she was legitimately threatening and ice cold (that RJ hit just made me shiver and her business plan of using foster children as expendable sales agents pretty damn terrible) she never really became interesting outside of being an opposing force to Red. With the show not living in the black & white for the rest of the cast I felt like Vee was an adequate at best protagonist for the season. It was easy to root for her demise and maybe her being so one dimensional is the point, but I was just hoping for more coming from her. Her performance was great and lifted up the character, but I'm not going to miss her at all.
I was hoping the Alex and Piper melodrama was over, but it looks like it'll be back in full swing next season.
I miss Pornstache. Comparatively, him as the protagonist last season was a lot more interesting to watch than Vee this season.
It was great to see Caputo get his mojo going and then to see it swiftly cut off at the knees. It will be interesting to see if he survives his first two days on the job. Two inmates escape. A nun protest. Bennett dropping that bomb. I feel sorry for him and it was nice to see his character built up this season to redeem from last season where I thought he was a general creep.
