If they really go ahead with a sequel, Godzilla better get a lot MORE screen time. They did an amazing CGI job on him.

I don't know if the acting was all that bad it just paled in comparison to Brian Cranston

See, this is part of it... I think they always planned on/anticipated a sequel, so they went with this like: "We're okay with not showing too much Godzilla. He will appear more, and when he does it will be more often." You don't put all your eggs in one basket when you expect to have other baskets.

However, this is of course the dilemma with most television shows... show too much and you'll have to change course, show too little and you might get canceled. Tease just enough, get the audience to come, and you still have so much going for you for future releases.

I thought they showed Godzilla just enough. He got plenty of screen time in the last act of the movie.

This sort of gave me a Jaws vibe as far as the reveal went. When they finally did fully reveal Godzilla, it was amazing.

                Re: Godzilla 2014

After digesting my experience with this movie, I have a better appreciation for Pacific Rim. Watched it again today and it was a much better unashamed monster movie. I know Godzilla is more of a drama, but the more serious tone and plot just didn't grab me.

Outside of Cranston the acting was pretty bland and even then, the scenes with him were just average, which is cool, I wasn't expecting anything more than that. Watanabe and his assistant's "Oh my god I think I've figured it out" facial expressions though were present in almost every single one of their scenes from one or the other, or both, and it was comical. I don't even know why they had to be in the movie. They really added nothing that couldn't have been provided by Cranston's character.

Someone explain to me (in spoilers please) why the Mutos have the abilities they do.
                Spoiler
I was also turned off by their design.

I absolutely love Godzilla's design however, I think it's amazing. I just wish I got to see more of it. The visuals in general were very well done. The sound was amazing as well.

I really don't think I'd be interested in sitting through it again. Watch a few scenes from the last third of the film? Sure, but sit though the whole movie? No thanks.

While I loved every scene with Godzilla, I thought they showed him enough for this first installment.

However, anyone outside of Cranston was completely boring.

I thought the EMP was a byproduct of them eating materials that give off radiation. The male sucked down the output from a nuclear power plant over ~15 years, that energy has to go somewhere.

                        Re: Godzilla 2014

Does anyone else laugh when films use historical events as a part of their plots? For example, the Mars & Moon landings in the Transformers films. There are a lot more, but I always just find this kind of thing funny.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in this film they said that...

Every time Godzilla appeared on screen I got chills. It was awesome. Lol. How they kept teasing him until the end was annoying but did the job of when he did appear being great.
