IIRC, after Joffrey's death Tywin ordered that all ships in port were to be seized. Apparently Shae's ship had not yet sailed.Comment

Ned deserved to die?!? He was the most honorable man in Westeros. He finally concedes and is killed. Nope just no.

So how does the trial by combat work and why didn't Ned Stark take that out? Seems like he would have had a decent shot. Seems like if you are a decent swordsman or have $$$ and can buy the best swordsman in the land, you can stand a good chance of beating the rap.Chalepa Ta Kala.....Comment

Re: Game of Thrones Season 4 (aka A Storm of Swords: Part Deux)
A couple reasons Ned didn't. One, he was still not 100% from the his injuries from when him & Jaime fought.
The other reason was he was told he could declare his sins and go to the Wall to spend the rest of his life. Joffrey ruined that and had him killed instead, despite Ned being assured he could do that.Cincinnati Reds University of Kentucky Cincinnati Bengals

As for Ned there were several factors that could've lead to his decision not to exercise it. You have to remember his daughter were "hostages" of the Lannisters after he was imprisoned and he was told they could not find Arya. He was still suffering from his injuries, and it was highly unlikely that someone would've stepped forward to be his champion. You also have to remember his family's history with "Trials by Combat" in Kings Landing. That is how he lost his father and brother, which started Robert's Rebellion.
Varys has pretty much told him that he would be allowed to take the black and join the Nights Watch, and he was coming around to the idea and being able to see Jon and tell him about his mother and other things.Moderator

Book/possibly casting show spoilers
SpoilerProbably. I dont think they even cast Euron and Victarion for this season.
Love the reaction from non book readers. Everythings so fresh to yall, though the show is starting to throw more scenes not from the novels. Stannis never was shown going to Braavos for example.

Re: Game of Thrones Season 4 (aka A Storm of Swords: Part Deux)
In the Game of Thrones you either win or die. Remember after Jaime killed the king, Ned could've taken the throne but chose against it. Ultimately he died because he trusted Littlefinger. He had an ok plan to oust the Lannisters, but he needed patience and more time to develope a better one before threatening Cersei and putting it in motion.
Tunnel vision when playing the game is a death Sentence. Hell the moment he said yes to being the hand he was dead.
We all know Ed was bad at playing the game. He told Cersei he knew her secret to her face, and said he planned to expose it point blank. Retrospectively that was the most idiotic thing ever. But still, Cersei ranks higher on the "deserves death" list than Ed ever did. Thats all I'm saying.
Im talking character, not so much plot/theme, when I say Ed didnt deserve to die.Comment
