everything he says after will be inadmissible...perhaps Rust wanted to interrogate the detectives like Marty said..***st is still working the case and has been since 2002...he doesn't trust the cops, because he suspects that someone connected to govt was involved and that the "task force" in 95 was involved...his storage unit is filled with research on the case obviously

Definitely inadmissible, we discussed that a few pages back and Hart said that they weren't trying to get a read on Rusty, Rusty was trying to get a read on them. He's still actively working on the case and thought maybe he could get a little out of the interview. He wasn't able to get anything except now he knows that they know about him investigating stuff and the storage unit. He's stuck between a rock and a hard place now it would seem.

And it might not matter. Ledoux really got into Cohle's head with that flat circle quote and references to the yellow king and along the same lines. There is no time in this flat circle, there is no future. Its just the same story looping over and over again. Everything that's going to happen has already happened according to Cohle. Its like Groundhog's day without free will and there is no start or end point, just a circle. So I think at some point he went from being philosophical to stepping right off the deep end. If you think about it long enough it will drive you crazy.

But I am starting to wonder if we are watching a detective story where we see the killer and the reasons behind the murders, or if instead we are watching the story of the unraveling of a couple detectives and their ultimate demise with everything in the background being secondary. I personally don't care if they find out who the killer is, I'd rather find out what got Cohle to this place.

Man this show is getting good. There is definetly something going on more than what the show is leading you too that Cohle is the killer.

Its pretty obvious to me that something is going on with the Hart family. The way the little girl did weird things with the dolls, pictures , the crown hanging from the tree in this past episode. The ways that Maggie keeps alluding to Martin being a good man in the past and what not. Something bigger is gonna be shown and its good but its always nice to have your own theories. .

Great episode tonight, and great show overall. I'm gonna lay off trying to figure out where the writers are headed and just enjoy the ride

I was expecting alot more to happen this episode than what we got. I'm starting to think the resolution of this season will not be what people are expecting unless there's a helluva a lot of crap that's resolved in the last 2 episodes. I may be wrong but this show may be more character driven and the unsolved murders are just background noise.

Very interested to see what comes of the meeting between present day Marty and Rust.

edit: also, I loved Cohle's line as he's walking out of the major's office, after he quit. "Nice hook, Marty..." haha.

I think they're bringing this all together in a great way. The meeting between older Woody and older McConaughey at the end of the episode was a great moment and sets the stage for a heck of a finish.

I was expecting a lot more to happen this episode than what we got.

They had to bring everything together to get that great scene at the end. That included explaining why Rust quit the force. It wouldn't have worked if the "reunion" happened in the middle of the episode. IMO perfect timing. Resolve the crime in the final two hours.

edit: also, I loved Cohle's line as he's walking out of the major's office, after he quit. "Nice hook, Marty..." haha.

Maggie's line was pretty good too, "Nice a$$, Marty".

Was she ever right.

That's what I concluded when they started talking about the flat circle stuff. There is definitely an evil monster on the loose and I think they might reveal them catching him or possibly not. It doesn't really matter, the most important piece of the story is how Rust got from point A to point B. I would imagine we'll see some crazy stuff next week that drover Rust over the edge.

I love this show and next weeks episode is going to be epic.

In the scenes for the next ep there was a black lady talking about those bone design things. Is she the lady that black guy was talking about a few episodes back when they were first investigating?

I never thought the shows focus was the crime, partially because its an anthology and who knows what the next locale/case takes us, and partially because were getting what two disparate world views do when they're forced to come together.

I don't know if I'm explaining that right...
