Batman Vs Superman - Dawn Of Justice
Ugh. Super hero movies are getting tired especially this kind. Dark Knight movies were the only ones I enjoyed the others had me looking at my watch.Comment

Re: Batman Vs Superman - Dawn Of Justice
I'd go the exact opposite (minus Man of steel which was iffy). The movies Marvel keeps putting out are getting better and better. Haven't seen Spidey 2 yet but the first one was better than the original trilogy.
Really, Man of Steel and Iron man 2 are the only superhero movies that have let me down since Batman Begins, I think.
Different strokes. I'm more excited for this than I would be for a Man of steel sequel.Comment

Re: Batman Vs Superman - Dawn Of Justice
Its funny how quickly it has renewed my want to see Batman back on screen.
I like the overall tone WB is going for their DC films and thought it worked well in MoS (which my only general concerns were over the 3rd act's regurgitating action sequences).
Apart from the casting I was never really impressed with this new Spidey series. I like the writing of Spiderman himself, but that's about it. I still really enjoy SM1 and 2 despite the cast. Plus, I felt like Raimi's semi-dark camp worked well in the first two films.
As for Marvel, I feel like their success has me less interested since Avengers. Everything just feels so orchestrated and formulaic with no room to breath much less taking any real risk of character development or identity. Guardians of the Galaxy, however, definitely has me interested.

Yeah, this isn't a Man of Steel sequel. Zach Snyder said that they're doing one, but BvS isn't that movie.Boston Red Sox

In recent superhero movies, those films, along with Iron Man 1 and Batman Begins are my favourite.
I probably put MoS in the top 5 only because he's my favourite hero.
While I did enjoy MoS I still feel nobody's really written the right script to truly capitalize on such a great hero.Comment

Personally I thought MOS was great and added more depth than I expected.Comment

Re: Batman Vs Superman - Dawn Of Justice
I'm extremely excited for this, DC is by far my favorite. Marvel's movies have done a great thing with the universe they created, but aside from Guardians of the Galaxy, I'm not really excited for their movies and the formula they have in place.
Hopefully this will be a positive step toward a solid, shared DC universe and not a giant pile of crap.Comment

Re: Batman Vs Superman - Dawn Of Justice
No offense to the true Superman fans but the problem is he's boring. He's boring on purpose, true to the original comic. So unless you scrap the back story (or accept what we got from MOS) and just put together a plot with a villain that creates some great action scenes, any superman movie is going to be disappointing if you want to stack up against most other superhero movies out there. He doesn't have the dark side of batman, or the sympathetic dorky side of spiderman... or the human element of either.
Personally I thought MOS was great and added more depth than I expected.
At his essence, the challenge of Superman has never been physical. It's about facing down challenges that for all his strength, he can't just fly in and save the day. His challenge is to inspire people to DO GOOD EVERYDAY. And that'll never happen, but he keeps on doing it anyway.
I liked Man of Steel. I could even agree with their decision for Superman to snap Zod's neck based on the parameters they setup in the movie. Reluctant hero, afraid of how the world will react to such a being, chooses to put faith in humanity, saves the Earth even though they don't trust him. There was nothing dark added to Superman, but there was darkness added to the world around him. And that's why I found this modern retelling fun, exciting, and a valid interpretation of 21st Century Superman. Movie could've been better, especially with that abrupt ending, but it's still a Superman that has his essence.
People always find Batman to be cooler and all that. That's fine. I think he really is cool as well, but when the whole universe of DC heroes considers Superman to be their LEADER and when push comes to shove, they ask themselves "What would Superman/Clark do?", I think that says enough about Superman and why he's a damned cool character himself.Comment

Re: Batman Vs Superman - Dawn Of Justice
Imo the movie failed to show his desire to save humans. He was bullied all his life, was held back to be a wuss which ultimately led to his father's death. It ultimately failed on why he wanted to be superman and show why he wanted to save humans. With that foundation, Im not looking forward to this sequel. I just can't see how it can work esp when they basically turned superman into a joyless character like batman

I did not very much enjoy Man of Steel, but I know exactly what it sought to be: a reboot. He'll be saving humans and such in his own sequels, but first they wanted to establish the character. Re: Batman Vs Superman - Dawn Of Justice
Ahh, the tired old "SUPERMAN IS BORING" reasoning. You can say you find him boring, but he's not a boring character. If being an inspiration, doing good and being good for the sake of good, choosing to identify with his adopted home rather than rule over it, and continually seeing the good in all of things makes a boring character, then I'll gladly accept that "boring" character.
At his essence, the challenge of Superman has never been physical. It's about facing down challenges that for all his strength, he can't just fly in and save the day. His challenge is to inspire people to DO GOOD EVERYDAY. And that'll never happen, but he keeps on doing it anyway.

That's why I liked MOS though. I thought they did a great job of bringing depth while staying pretty true to the essence of his story. I think Blzer just said it perfectly also. The first one had to be about character development, now they can create story lines to keep the attention of generation z or whatever it is now.Comment

Re: Batman Vs Superman - Dawn Of Justice
Bro Superman sucks.
Im sorry he's too bulletproof of a golden boy (literally); I mean the character btw. I liked the movie's interpretation though. I felt they had to try real hard to make superman vulnerable to the audience and that's because the hero is inherently OP (in power and morality) and I think they did it well enough.
I liked that MOS mixed it up and bit, brought a little shade onto the world and even had him murder a guy. That was great. Im glad they didnt go full Superman on us and have him save everybody, and beat the bad guy and smiles galore. That would have been a major dud with the themes presented in other hero movies of recent years.
I admit I would rather them release a true Superman sequel to build on what they started. But I can see them doing that in this Justice League start up film.Comment
