I don't really see how a Wonder Woman film will be a downward spiral for the hype train. It will be the first major film with a female superhero as the lead, right? I'm sure they'll play that angle up to no end - especially with the other side's resistance to supporting their own characters the same way.

I think Suicide Squad will do what Guardians of the Galaxy did and provide the comic book film genre with something different and relatively unique.

I don't think the "first woman superhero movie" thing will be as impactful as people think it is. Look at how long it took people to write off the Supergirl show. Like 3 minutes.

I also think Suicide Squad could do that, but I'm not sure. I think funny movies are an easy sell. Guardians with the Marvel logo on it, Chris Pratt, and a raccoon were going to make people laugh if nothing else. This Universe is going for such intense realism that I don't think it'll be the same. The Joker hype is what will push it over the top. Batman is so much bigger than every other superhero in this universe to the public (after the Nolan movies) that anything related to him will overshadow everything else IMO.

Depends on when the Black Widow movie comes out. But yes it would be if it is before the Black Widow movie.

There will probably never be a Black Widow movie, it's not announced in the next phase. The first woman movie for Marvel will be Captain Marvel in 2018.

I guess we'll just agree to disagree on that first one, but I expect WW to be a success box-office wise. I know groups of guys weren't going to see Pitch Perfect and Magic Mike.

As for Supergirl I cannot comment since the show hasn't even aired yet.

I'm not really sure what you mean with the Pitch Perfect and Magic Mike thing.

But for Supergirl...exactly! Lol people hated it as soon as the trailer hit. That's my point, the pilot leaked and tons of people don't even want to give it a chance. It's "too girly". They're going to have to be very careful how they market Wonder Woman. If they make her look like a badass in BvS, it will help a lot. If people don't like Gadot in that, do you still think her solo movie would be a success?

My point is this - and this will apply to your Supergirl characterization - is that there is most definitely an audience willing to spend money on female super heroes.

No matter how Gadot is perceived in BvS I think WB/DC will heavily push this towards the female demographic who seem like they've been waiting forever for a chance at the superhero spotlight.

Wonder Woman could be absolutely amazing as a movie if done right. The animated movie they did is one of the most enjoyable superhero thing I've ever watched

Re: Batman Vs Superman - Dawn Of Justice

I hope you're right. I just checked the slate. Wonder Woman comes out June 23, 2017. That's a month and a half after Guardians 2, a month after STAR WARS EPISODE VIII, and a month before Thor 3. I think it's gonna be a bloodbath for Wonder Woman, not even by any fault of her own necessarily. But DC is getting into this party way too late and it's going to be fun to watch the battle for the next few years.

EDIT: The slate I was looking at didn't even include the Spider-Man solo film coming out a month after it. Dear god

I don't really see a problem as long as it's not a direct competition opening weekend. The summer is always going to be crowded now it seems from now on, if it's good people will go see it.

That IF is a very large one in this scenario. Because even if Star Wars is bad, people will see it. Same with Spider-Man. I just realized even after how terrible the Amazings were, they both grossed more than Man of Steel. If I'm DC, I'm pushing it back, but I guess they can't. Justice League is supposed to come out that year too.

With the Star Wars and Spider-Man hype trains going at once, will people even realize it's coming out? SO MUCH is riding on BvS, I can't ****ing wait.

This is the key. None of those movies will drastically kill sales because it's not like the movie is coming out the same weekend and fans having to choose one movie over the other. With them weeks or months before/after they don't have to choose which movie to see.

Im sorry if I always seem negative about this, I would love nothing more than DC to have a good presence in the film department. But the track record in my opinion has not been good. I have been a DC fan my whole life and it is disappointing to me.

I am just as interested in any info that comes out as you all are. But I am not as excited as most seem to be. I am allowed my opinions, which at least a few others share and we can post as much of our dislike as you post your likes. If that bothers you that much block us. But I am not being rude, trolling or out of line or violating terms of service with my posts of not being a fan of this.
I believe the discussion has moved on - which is good - but I just felt the need to address this. As wwharton said, people sharing their opinions is totally fine. It's the repetitive "I think it'll suck; everything I see just gives me a bad feeling; Snyder is the overseer of the universe, this will definitely suck" posts that I find a bother simply because there's no real discussion to be had there. There's a bias against the director/DC's gameplan and while I'm not going to attempt to get anyone to change their minds, if anyone on here simply has to state their dislike then at least provide a platform to discuss upon. What don't you like about what you've seen so far and why?

If people want to hate then go ahead but we don't need to hear it again and again when there's no new info about that hate.

I also wasn't trying to direct any offense at you, Bullit, just to be clear. It's more of a general sentiment towards posts of that sort.

Man, Supergirl is NOT Wonder Woman.

No offense to Supergirl but from Linda Carter, to comics, to animated JL movies, etc. There just is no comparison.

I think a Wonder Woman movie will do great... but even if it doesn't, it'll be because of bad writing, plot, etc. The first weekend will be a hit. The Supergirl show may be good, but even on TV it may take some time for people to hop on board.

I mean it goes without saying if BvS completely bombs it won't help anything, but ignoring that problem I think you really underrate the advertising. I mean has there been a single comic movie out since this train got rolling with X Men that you didn't know was coming out? They put that **** everywhere possible now, billboards, commercials, social media, teaming up other companies, etc
