Terrible news. Robin Williams was one of the most recognizable talents for me when I was a child.

Also, some bizarreness--On Friday, this was posted on the IGN boards: Are people bracing themselves for the fact that Robin Williams will die soon?

I was on a social media sight when I saw the news, and hoaxes about deaths happen all the time so I thought this was just another one.
Searched google and saw that it was real. Truly saddened and shocked. RIP Robin

Very upsetting. I have always heard this through the grapevine, but so many celebrities confirmed this today when they reacted to the news: he was just such a sweet soul.

Yeah, he was funny and a great actor but those that knew him always talked about his kindness first and foremost. That is a great way to be remembered. I have never heard of anyone having a bad experience with him, and have heard endless stories of him mentoring young comedians.

He always seemed very vulnerable once you looked past his manic energy. I know he cared deeply about others and of course he had his own demons. He seemed to always be in pleasing mode, as if trying to make everyone happy or gain their love and approval.

Sad, sad, sad. So many great roles. I will remember him first and foremost as a stand-up comedian (I am probably older than most here) but my favorite role of his was in a The Fisher King. Just heartbreakingly good.

Rest well, Funnyman. You were a prince to many.

Depression is a horrible horrible mental illness that far too many don't take seriously enough. It took a man who had the power to make everyone laugh at the drop of a dime. If it can do that to a man who has caused so much happiness, it can happen to anyone. I can say that I would never take my own life, but I have never battled depression myself, only seen it within my family. I hope Robin Williams Family has the strenght to get through this sad ordeal. We may think of him as this funny man and will miss that. But we must remember that he was also someone's dad, and husband. He was a family man as well as one of the greatest comedians I have had the privilege of seeing.

              RIP Mr. Williams.

This takes me way back to when John Candy died. So much humor lost.

Re: Robin Williams dead at 63

People seem to think he was solely experiencing depression, but my understanding is that he was manic-depressive (Bipolar), which would make sense in regard to some of his earlier achievements (as many know that one upside to Bipolar illness is that much can get accomplished during manic phases).

To keep things in perspective, there are far worse tragedies going on right now in the world. That being said, it would be better to have Robin Williams around right now to help people escape and get a little enjoyment out of life, which I'm sure most entertainers would say they want to provide, instead of this being the result. It's a shame.

Despite all the great characters he played and wonderful movies he was in, he'll always be Mork to me. I'm pretty sure that was the first show I watched as a kid.

                          Nanoo, Nanoo. RIP.

I was just looking for that quote on IMDB. Heard it played on the radio this morning. Creepy and appropriate at the same time.

Yea, if you look past a lot of the mediocre family friendly movies, the man was a comedic genius. Sure, some of the movie roles did not fit him, but try catching him on a talk show or a stand-up routine somewhere where he wasn't bound by a script. He could adapt to the crowd and seemed to know tons of jokes, as well as create new ones on the fly. Very few comedians can do that, and he did this consistently for over 30 years.
