Ok just came back from the movie. And I loved it. I'm on mobile so I'll be quick but man I guess I can see why people and critics wouldn't like it, but it did everything I wanted. Especially Harley.

        Re: Suicide Squad (2016?)

It was trash. Unrelenting trash. It was disjointed, rushed, messy, and all around bad. The entire time I was watching it, I was either convincing myself not to leave or thinking "man, in 2008 DC had not just one of the best superhero movies of all time, but what I consider to be one of the best".

What made it worse is that I could see the movie they wanted to make. It had all the right ingredients but you can't put eggs, milk, and flour in a bowl then put it in the oven and have a cake. There were the occasional flashes where I could see the direction it wanted to go but like a buggy with a broken wheel it took a hard left immediately. Like the stretch between the bar and the final fight was good, that was the movie I was hoping to see. But then it felt itself getting too long and entirely rushed the finale, which was underwhelming to begin with. The beginning flew past the character introductions so fast that I couldn't build any connection to any of the characters and when they came back around to that via the dossier scene they did the exact same thing. They had TWO chances to introduce the squad and both times felt like a last second middle school book report.

But what broke me was Leto's Joker. I'm willing to put up a certain level of discourse on the film but I'm not hearing any other opinions on this. Not only was Jared Leto overacting the **** out of the role, a role which was already over the top to begin with, the Joker was severely misplaced. The Joker as a mob boss just doesn't make sense. I'm willing to accept a few goons by his side but I don't think the character works as, I dunno, Penguin.

And the fact that the movie knew what it was and tried to sell "but hey...Margot Robbie is hot, right?" only made it that much worse for me.

I also have plot related issues with the story but it's not even worth my time to go into detail.

I haven't seen it yet but several of my coworkers have and couple of my friends. Pretty much everyone described it exactly like this and said "Whatever you do, don't go waste your money". Sooooo I'm waiting till it hits Redbox

The problem there is, we don't all always agree on a bad movie. BvS is the best comic book movie this year along with Deadpool (IMO), and yes, that includes Civil War. It is what it is I guess, but for me, DC's take on comic books/comic book movies is so dark and refreshing. I also have yet to find any of their storylines hard to follow or disjointed.

Honestly, what I find most difficult to understand (this has nothing to do with your post) is how vehemently angry people get towards the opposition. Some viewers are going to love this movie. Some are going to hate it. I personally love that we have options and a style that suits all tastes.

                Re: Suicide Squad (2016?)

                I was thoroughly entertained.

I am not a comic book reader......at all. I went in blind. I know the characters from watching the freaking Super Friends/Justice League when I was a little kid, reading some comics when I was 10, 11 years old and playing Batman Arkham video games.

My son and wife along with myself loved the film.

For the record I loved Man Of Steel. I have not even seen BvS yet but I am sure I will enjoy it as much than this. I was always a DC guy as a kid. But I have enjoyed the Marvel movies too (not all of them though). I also really enjoy the DC animated films (Batman ones in particular like Under The Red Hood, The Dark Knight, and soon going to watch The Killing Joke).

But I felt The Joker and Harley Quinn were outstanding. Leto nailed it for me. He was a diabolical freak as was Quinn. And Will Smith IMO was a damn good Deadshot and his comedic delivery as always was sharp.

Loved the film. And I can't wait to re-watch it after seeing BvS.

And DC does have a much darker approach.....which I love. And seeing Margot's *** often never get's old....ever.

                  Re: Suicide Squad (2016?)

For me, the DC approach which I really like is there's a certain gravitas to the movie (MoS/BvS, very much less so in SS). I know it's a comic book movie, but it doesn't really feel that way because there's a seriousness to it. The only time I felt that with a Marvel movie was with Winter Soldier.

Now before any fanboy comes in, I don't think there's a right way, of making these kinds of films, but rather, it's just a matter of execution.

                    Re: Suicide Squad (2016?)

Sausage Party #1 this weekend w/ $33.6m, Suicide Squad slid about as much as BvS. Hope Wonder Woman is a better movie.
And then there are victories that feel more like defeats. “Suicide Squad” topped domestic charts with $43.8 million, bringing its stateside total to a hefty $222.9 million. However, that represented a punishing 67% slide in the superhero movie’s second week business, nearly equaling “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’s” 69% sophomore plunge. It’s a signal that the deplorable reviews are catching up with the film and is unwelcome news for Warner Bros., which is trying to launch an inter-connected series of cinematic adventures based on DC Comics characters, but is still struggling to make movies that people like, as well as attend.

"Sausage Party" scored at the box office this weekend, debuting to a meaty $33.6 million and providing a win for struggling Sony Pictures.

Broke the record for week over week dropoff on Friday (81%).
With relatively strong weekday numbers and halfway decent audience polling, there was a hope that Suicide Squad would avoid the massive second-weekend drop that befell Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice back in April of this year. That DC Comics sequel fell a whopping 81% on its second Friday, which was a record for a major comic book superhero movie. Well, meet the new boss, same as the old one. David Ayer’s supervillain team-up caper earned $13.35 million on its second Friday, a drop of 79% compared to its (admittedly Thursday previews-inflated) $65m opening day.

That brings its eight-day total to $192.4 million domestic, meaning it will inevitably cross $200m sometime today in nine days of release. As far as massive Friday-to-Friday drops, it’s sadly in the same league as Fantastic Four (78.7%), Watchmen (-78.4%), The Dark Knight Rises (-76.6%), Hulk (-76.5%), X-Men Origins: Wolverine (-75.8%), Green Lantern (-72%), and Man of Steel (-71.5%). Now, to be fair, Sony’s R-rated Sausage Party is performing a bit better than expected, with around $13.5m on its opening day for a likely $32-$37m weekend. But, as was the case with Man of Steel and Batman v Superman, Suicide Squad was supposed to be “the danger.” And for a few days, it was.

And in case anyone is wondering, here's the current slate of comic movies for the next year.

                      Re: Suicide Squad (2016?)

When I was growing up Superman The Movie was "It" Then we got Tim Burtons Batman.

It really was an event back then.

Now it is watered down a little and par for the course (comic book movies). Far too many too close together. They are cranking them out way too fast IMO.

Some have been great, some good, some meh and some bad. But everyone has different tastes with what kind of movie they want or expect.

I think all the fanboisim over comic book movies....Star Trek, Star Wars....to me it's actually comical. Sorry don't mean to offend....but it's a freaking fantasy movie. The amount of bad buzz a fan base can create in todays social media age can ruin what would probably be a good to great film for an average family who never read a word of any of the comics these movies represent. Going in ignorant is bliss with movies. I never read buzz, reviews nothing. I go to the movie and judge it for myself with now pre conceptions put in my head.

Just about everyone in my theater yesterday walked out happy with the movie and I would say 90% really liked it based on the buzz I heard walking out.

My favorite comic book flicks since 1979-

                      Superman The Movie
                      Superman II
                      Batman
                      Batman Returns
                      X-Men
                      X-2
                      Spiderman
                      Spiderman II
                      X-Men First Class
                      Batman Begins
                      The Dark Knight
                      Dark Knight Rises
                      X-Men Days Of Future Past
                      Antman
                      The Amazing Spiderman
                      Ironman
                      Thor
                      The Avengers
                      Captain America
                      Captain America Winter Solider
                      Man of Steel
                      The Suicide Squad

Not a fan of the Hulk movies at all. Not a fan of the Ironman sequels, Thors sequel, Spiderman 3, or Amazing Spiderman 2. X3 meh, but most of them have been really cool flicks.

Lot's of fun. I don't take any of them seriously. IMO Nolan's Batman Trilogy is the gold standard for me. I can watch those over and over and over. The first Avengers film was really awesome too. Man of Steel was a heck of flick.

Still need to see BvS Look forward to it. And now I can't wait to see Justice League.

I mean...yes. It's a bit of a copout to try to justify not building up their universe of characters before smashing them all together by trying to simplify it to merely "sitting through the same exact sequence Marvel just did but with different characters."

That's a cheap argument in my mind. It's not like Marvel has an exclusive on proper character development or something.

That's a cheap argument in my mind. It's not like Marvel has an exclusive on proper character development or something.

I feel like it's kind of DCs problem at the moment. I feel like they really wanna beat Marvel to the "OmniVillain" punch. Marvel teased and teased Thanos for so long and DC was like "let's go straight to Darkseid!" and completely trampled on Doomsday, just destroyed the hopes and dreams for those us who grew up with the DoS comics and prayed we could a see a proper big screen Doomsday in our lifetime.

I still feel like I would give the BvS UE cut a 9 if they just completely erased the DD stuff that left the door open for a proper treatment of that arc.

But I digress, I gotta let that go.

It seems DC just wants to forget about A, B, and C and get straight to X, Y, and Z.

I'm not saying everyone in SS needed their own movie, I just feel like the DCEU in general feels...."rushed."

                                IMO of course.

I do really feel like WW is gonna represent the real "turn or the tide" and level the playing field. I mean I hated BvS at first but the UE cut won me over a little. It's solid to me now, for what it is. I appreciated MoS and I really enjoyed this movie. At this point DC definitely has my attention, I think they can compete they just need to keep trying to get better.

Personally I really want a good Green Lantern movie and a good Shazam! movie (guess we can't call him captain marvel?). If they can both of those to me I'll get DCEU tattooed on my forehead.

(Not really, but I'll be a super happy camper)
