    Re: Suicide Squad (2016?)

I saw it in 3D (by accident) tonight.

I usually hate 3D and I was unprepared (wore glasses instead of contacts), but I thought it was well done and fit with the movie.

There were about 10 people in my group and it was pretty well divided on good or bad. I'm not as knowledgeable about comic storylines as some are and it seemed the most critical were those with a lot of knowledge and the people who are typically the most critical of EVERYTHING we see or do. I definitely understand most of the complaints about the movie they presented and they were well constructed, but that **** was seriously killing my vibe on the walk back afterwards.

I thought the movie was a lot of fun. I could find some things I didn't like about it, but what I've learned after finishing the movie and listening to friends is that I don't catch nearly as much as some others do. I'm always saying, "How do you find time to watch the movie between all of these thoughts running through your head ?".

Villain and plot wasn't the best, but loved the characters and walked out of the theater wanting more. I had decided to go in with an open mind and I think that combined with my excitement for the movie really helped.

I would definitely watch this again and I'm all ready mentally adding it to my future collection to watch again one day.

DC's plot's and storytelling for these movies have been inexplicably amateurish, but maybe with Geoff Johns taking over the reigns the narrative will be better going forward.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

I'm mostly excited for Leto's Joker. Big fan of his acting, think he'll be excellent. Robbie looks great as Harley, too. Not sure about much else going into it in one hour, I'll probably write down my thoughts afterwards.

Margot Robbie is bad as hell. Always had faith in Jared Leto being the Joker and he delivered, IMO. Can't wait to see those two more in the future.

Will Smith was great. Don't know how Deadshot will be expected to be a villain in coming films, I see him more as an anti-hero in the DCU now, in that neutral zone.

                  Re: Suicide Squad (2016?)

I thought this was a great movie, all the actors did their part well especially Smith, Robbie, and Leto. It was an enjoyable time, I really liked the connections to the greater DC universe. Harley Quinn in this movie may be the most accurate representation of a comic book character ever. I was a big fan of the music in this movie too, especially House of Rising Sun right in the start.

Like most comic book movies it suffered a bit from a weak villain, but it was a solid job of trying to make it work story wise for the rest of the characters.

I'd say out of the 3 DC movies released this was the one I left really excited about and can't wait to see what they got next

Wife balked at our weekend plans to see this due to reviews and impressions, so on my own. Hopefully this evening or early in the week so I can stop skipping over spoiler tags.

Looks like it opened at $135m domestically. A nice chunk towards that $750m break-even point.

Slightly OT, but I don't get how they can say numbers when a day isn't over yet. I understand projections, but they do this very early, very often.

What if today I walked up to the box-office and said, "I'd like to buy 100,000 tickets." Definitely unrealistic haha, but what says that amount of people will go on that day for that film?

I always wondered that for sporting events as well. What if there was a day where most everybody just "had something else to do" and there were only 2,000 in attendance for some odd reason? Heh, I'd like to see that.

Decades of data allow for good prediction models I imagine. They then revise them when actuals are available. Good movies usually edge higher and poor movies lower due to word of mouth but not always

So I don't understand if it cost roughly $175m to produce and a little over $100m to advertise why are reports saying they need to hit $750m to break even? Break even seems like a misused phrase. Maybe $750m to be considered a success? I don't know. Just doesn't seem like it makes sense. I would think $300m or so would be breaking even.

I saw this a couple days ago, and I was pretty impressed. Only the villian was lacking IMO, which has been said by multiple people already. I was really impressed with Will Smith as Deadshot and thought he did a very good job. At first, I thought there was no way he could pull it off, but he sure did.
