    Re: Oscars 2015

Best Movie is probably going to be a race between Birdman and Boyhood. I thought Boyhood was very ambitious film to take 12 years to make but Birdman was phenomenal directing and acting. It should take best Director and Cinematography.

Best Actor is a race between Michael Keaton of Birdman and Eddie Redmayne. What Eddie Redmayne did to become Stephen Hawking was phenomenal going through the different stages of ALS.

I haven't seen too many of the nominated actress films but I thought Rosamund Pike did amazing in Gone Girl and I thought Felicity Jones of The Theory of Everything did well too but thought it wasn't an award winning performance like her counterpart Redmayne.

Best supporting actor: Hands down JK Simmons of Whiplash. My favorite movie of 2014 and it was because of how well he did. Miles Teller did great too but the performance of JK raised up everyone in the film. Biggest ******* of all time lol.

Biggest snub has to be Animated movie, where the hell is The Lego Movie? It should get at least a nomination and honestly its the best animated movie I seen all year by far. I'm about to see Selma so seeing that the lead actor not get a nod might be one. Another snub was Jake Gyllenhall for Nightcrawler. That was a great performance by him, one of the best of his career and I thought it deserved a nod.

I still have Imitation Game, Foxcatcher, American Sniper to watch to round out most of the Oscar buzz movies.

      Re: Oscars 2015

Boyhood will win what it can because of its ambition. Like, there aren't any movies that did what it did, so it would "suck" that a movie that "only took several weeks to make" beats a movie that "took twelve years to make." Stupid argument, but that could always be the justification.

Selfishly, I wanted to see Interstellar get a nomination for Best Cinematography and Best Picture. Didn't care if it won (and know it wouldn't), but I think those could have been put up there for sure, especially if Gravity was just this time last year. The thing about BP though is... they only filled up eight spots! If they fill up all ten, I bet it and Gone Girl get on there.

And just a little thing here, but... anyone notice the trend of the amount of compound words involved in the Oscar nominated one-word movie titles this year?

      Boyhood
      Foxcatcher
      Interstellar
      Birdman
      Whiplash
      Nightcrawler

      Just kind of weird haha.

Why is Foxcatcher nominated for Best Original Screenplay? Wouldn't the fact that it's based on a book and actual events disqualify it from that category?

The snub was ridiculous. One of the year's most hilarious and creative films.

I'm just glad The Grand Budapest Hotel got a bunch of nominations. It's probably my favorite film of the year, and I usually hate those types of movies.

Great movie, very inspiring. It's an unique love story too.

Eddie Redmayne was amazing, the acting he did to portray Stephen Hawking pre/post ALS was off the charts. It was so hard seeing Stephen go through the different stages of ALS but in the movie he never acknowledged it and kept in going though it was so difficult for his wife.

He's my choice for getting best actor but I could see Michael Keaton get it too because he was brilliant in Birdman.

On a side note just finished Selma which is emotional, powerful and very well acted but for me it wasn't to the level of the other movies on the list. I thought David Olewyo was perfect as MLK Jr and was was snubbed for best actor.

I still have American Sniper to watch to finish out the best picture list to make my predictions.

As of now Birdman or Boyhood for best picture because of the groundbreaking directing but my favorite movie is still Whiplash.

I think Whiplash captured competitive fire better than any sports movie so I think most of OS will appreciate that. And some can relate to having an ******* teacher or coach but not to the level of JK Simmons. And man that ending.

IMO, he's up there with Joe Pesci in Goodfellas and Heath Ledger in TDK in terms of GOAT acting performances.

As I said in the "What movies have you watched recently?" thread, if you had to see one movie based upon one acting performance, Whiplash should be on your list.
