American Sniper should have won best picture, IMO.

I'm not terribly upset that it didn't win, but it's pretty bad in my eyes. I saw a lot of these films again this year, and Sniper was my movie of the year.

For as much as Simmons was in Whiplash, it's weird to think of him as a supporting actor in that flick.

Well the story was not following him so I can see that and probably the people pushing Whiplash for the Oscars did not want him to compete with the packed lead actor category.

Really? I thought it was one of the bottom films on the list imo. There is no way it should beat out Birdman, that movie was made masterfully.

I mean AS sold more than all the other movies. Sales should count for something. I never even heard of half of those movies until the nominations came out.

I do think the bigger snub was Interstellar not being nominated for Best Picture.

Sales definitely shouldn't count for anything for the Oscars. Transformers 4 was one of the top grossing movies last year and that was complete dog ****.

Interstellar was ok, it had some plot holes and the ending was shaky so I thought it didn't deserve a nomination especially compared to the other movies. If you haven't seen Birdman or Whiplash, go and see those two at least because they deserved everything they got.

Box office receipts should be the last thing considered when determining the quality of a motion picture and/or an actor's performance. Most big budget, typical Hollywood movies aren't very good at all.

The release of Whiplash on Blu-ray couldn't have been planned on a better date, either. It comes out tomorrow.

Joan Rivers excluded from the "In Memoriam" tribute done yearly by the Oscars? Was this a snub? Does it have something to do with Johnny Carson's banishment of her?

I mean, Dakota Johnson did present something. Was there another reason for her to have been out there, other than that film? I don't think Need for Speed would have been a qualifying reason.

I'm curious how sales translate to Best Picture winners.

Is a movie still good if no one buys it?
