Saw it this weekend. Great fit for 3D and had plenty of 3D effects. If you're into 3D its worth the $3-4 surcharge. I went into it with low expectations for the movie itself, but it was surprisingly not terrible.

One thing that did annoy me a bit was...

I heard it on the radio earlier this morning. But I was getting out of the car as they were talking about it so I probably misheard it.

          Re: GhostBusters Reboot/Spin off

I honestly think the movie is pretty awful if you go in expecting an experience like the first two movies. Angry Joe's scathing review was a little harsh but he says a couple things I really agree with, namely having issue with the first two movies basically being erased. I guess it's on me, and maybe I'm just an idiot, I didn't realize it was a full on reboot. I though it was an extension, like one of the girls was a daughter of the original GBs or something. That's on me for going in with false expectations.

The critic reviews are way higher than the audience reviews. Audience reviews are almost universally destroying the film from what I've seen.

I think some critics are afraid to be negative about the movie because of the strong feminist presence backing the film stemming from the ridiculous overreaction to the first trailer. The woman aren't the problem, I love the women in it actually. Kristin Wiig is awesome.

The movie isn't very smart, and doesn't really make a whole lot of sense. It's not very charming, and honestly majority of the jokes fell flat for me. to me the movie feels like what Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines was in comparison to T1 and T2. Smart, charming, and over the top funny is something Paul Feig does better than anyone else (Spy and Bridesmaids are freaking amazing comedy movies) but this just fails horribly in those regards IMO.

This all, of course, is just my opinion. I have a weird taste in movies. This is all just my own meaningless perspective. Maybe you'll love it. It's not the worst movie I've ever seen. Just not a movie I would ever expect to see with the Ghostbusters name.

          I prolly give it a 4.5 out of 10

Pretty much. No doubt most of these critics went into the movie wanting to like, just because of the overblown backlash it received when that first trailer came out. And they sure as hell weren't going to criticize it for the cast. Still, 73% ain't special.

Looked it up, and The Secret Life of Pets has grossed $254M worldwide. That's probably what they were talking about.

Saw it opening day with my kids. Thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish. Went in with a complete open mind, not even thinking about GB 1 or 2 or the awful trailers (which they even made fun of).

In the end, I was entertained and it felt like a Ghostbusters film. Still, with 2-3 lines of dialogue, it could have easily been GB 3 making one of the girls a daughter or niece. But still, it was a fun summer blockbuster, all I want in a movie now days.

I read a while ago that Murray has a cameo (I know this will spoil it for me) but what exactly went on with him in the movie?

                    Thanks

Saw this Saturday in 3D, loved it. Don't know if it would be as good though in 2D.
                      If there's a sequel, & it's in 3D, I'll be there.

                        Re: GhostBusters Reboot/Spin off

This is, by far, the best take on the whole Ghostbusters situation that I have ever seen/read/heard. In my humble opinion this chick freaking NAILS it.

THERE IS SOME NSFW LANGUAGE. Couple S-bombs and whatnot.

                        <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Sn_vAcFGTJU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Her take on the situation surrounding the movie is extremely thoughtful and intelligent. Her actual take on the movie itself is short and lasts about 40 seconds. That part starts at around 3:30, but I highly recommend watching the entire thing. She brings up some pretty solid points about the movie business in general and the circumstances behind this movie being what it is.

I didn't realize that Sony themselves played such a role in creating this ridiculous gender-war to basically shield the movie from legit criticism.

The number one thing she said that resonates to me is basically, and I am paraphrasing a bit here, that yeah we might have laughed a few times in this movie but will we remember it in two months? For me, after I thought about it, the answer is no. Like she says, for me the the film is "consumable drivel." The first two Ghostbusters movies have numerous scenes I vividly recall to this day, lifelong memories practically.

Only thing I disagree with her about is the effects. I thought the ghosts looked fine and the movie, in general, is a pretty good looking film. Her take on the villain, "the villain is stupid," is an understatement IMO.

AGAIN, I just want to reiterate that of course her words and my writing are just personal perspectives and I don't think I am right and anybody else is wrong. I'm the weird guy that thought X-Men Apocalypse was great so clearly I am no pillar of good movie taste. I just enjoy discussing music, movies, and sports. Hope I never come off as "my opinion is all that matters," because that is not how I feel at all.

You can ask that question of about 95% of major film releases and the answer will be "No."

I agree about the villain. There was no real sense of tension or threat given to the cast apart from the possession scene and that was about 5 seconds.

You're not alone. She was great and did nail it. Amazing that an established reputable critic like Richard Roeper gets attacked for being a misogynist because of a negative review of the film. Here's his defensive response:
