did you click the windows logo in the bottom right task bar to update? I think you are only scheduling the update.. If you go directly to the site you can download and install it manually, instead of waiting..

so Security Essentials is not compatible with win10.
Windows defender looks like the same sort of program, and comes with win10 but I cant speak on if it is the same functionality of Security Essentials.

it runs all the time unless you install another antivirus program and then it will turn itself off

I think I saw something about it catching like 95% or so of viruses, which is ok but not great. If you install MalwareBytes Anti-Exploit, that will stop the zero-day stuff from the web, which your antivirus may not catch. With both of those running, you are probably good unless you are doing things that would expose you to more viruses.

Is it pointless to run my free norton virus I get from Comcast? Is defender enough? Hate how Norton slows my laptop down on startup.

If Norton slows you down, then you simply got a very weak laptop. It shouldn't slow you down what so ever.

Is it pointless to run both though? That's what I'm asking.

Simple google search tells me Norton does in fact slow down systems.

Pointless indeed to run both. If it slows down your system, just use Windows Defender.

Thanks. So just uninstall Norton? Windows defender will take over?

Yeah completely uninstall Norton and Defender will take over since it automatically runs anyway. I would check the settings to make sure it is on though just to be sure.
