I didn't like the movie either and usually I'm a big fan of the marvel films. They definitely rushed his training and became an expert wizard in a couple weeks. Another forgettable villain too.

Never read the comics so I can't really compare if this was a good rendition of Strange but I did enjoy Cummberbach. I actually didn't mind Tilda, I thought she did well.

A couple funny moments but a lot of jokes were became flat.

I do like that Strange is in the universe though and he'll be a major factor in upcoming movies.

I would have liked to see them stick with an Asian Ancient One as well, but I get it.... diversity is a must these days. Additionally, I thought the whole other bad universe look was cheesy. Overall, it seemed rushed (a la Capt Amer 1) in order to get Strange to fit into the upcoming schedule, I would imagine. Specifically, Strange gained his powers awfully fast. Yes, I understand he said he has a photographic memory and this is what got him an MD and PhD at the same time, but those attributes weren't supposed to matter. Sorry, but this was below Thor 2, but I'd have to push myself to see that one again.

The beginning of the movie takes place during Iron Man 2, so his training definitely didn't take a couple weeks.

Regardless, the common notion would be that this type of advancement would take years, if not decades/half a life time. The movie gave the impression that it was this significantly short time. Overall, it appeared to do too much in the time frame a la Cap 1. Yes, I understand superhero movies are about things not working in a real world time frame, but there are many elements from the real world enveloped into this mythical paradigm. I can appreciate Marvel's challenge, however, in light of their larger project.

Well for one, Rhodes was in the Air Force, not the Marines. And he's not in his 30s.

The case was a 35-year old Marine.

Scott Derrickson's Doctor Strange features a handful of references to the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe, but there are some who believe that there is a direct reference to the events of Captain America: Civil War. They're wrong.

The whole time frame matter was not easily discernible. The average movie goer isn't going to dive into fan sites and dig for the details and nuances.

When I first saw the movie, I thought it was War Machine too.

Then, like what's happening now, I found it wasn't. That's it. I was someone who didn't know, I learned the information, and now I'm sharing it with other people who didn't know.

Right. But at the time of watching the movie in which you can be immersed, it's not that evident imo. Again, most people aren't going to go digging. But hey, it's the magical Marvel universe where all kinds of **** can happen.

Finally saw this. I really enjoyed it. Lots to like about it. Visuals were freaking amazing. Thought the story was pretty good and moved along decent enough. Bad guy was blah but that's been par for the course mostly. Cumberbatch is solid and will make a great addition to the MCU. It's funny that the 3 movies I didn't know a ton about the characters have all been excellent IMO (GotG, Ant-Man, and Doctor Strange).

As for most bad guys not being great (aside from Loki) it seemed to me that there is not enough time to build up the character with the hero backstory needing to happen. Now granted that really isn't the case with all of them but I think the only reason Loki is solid is because he has been in more then one movie. He was fleshed out more.

Agreed about Loki. The Red Skull could have been the same, but I think Marvel blew that. Also, they could have hinted or intro'd The Mandarin in IM1, but we see how that handled that. Maybe they don't want to totally rehash villians that are associated with past major wars.

Maybe. I don't know really because there are some really good villains to choose from. Characters with a lot of depth too. I agree about Red Skull. The Mandarin one killed me. I'm really not one to complain about movies because as long as I'm entertained I'll let a lot of things go but that was a total wtf moment for me. If they'd stop killing them all off after one movie at least they'd have an opportunity to bring them back in some way. For me Loki was pretty good in Thor but really took it next level in The Avengers. They actually gave the villain some time there.

I think they realized the quality of the actor as well, plus Loki had always been almost a co-star to Thor in the comics.
