If you haven't seen it I'd urge you to. It's John Wayne's last film and it never fails to make me feel misty eyed. I think a somewhat grittier (not darker mind you) treatment of it would be awesome in this day and age.
I really enjoyed the book. Had a gritty ending as well. Perfect for today's style of film making.

But since I'm a giant western nerd, I'll waive my disgust for the Magnificent Seven.
I'd love a remake of Have Gun Will Travel, but Richard Boone might have been too perfect for the role.

No thanks...wasn't a fan. Another huge star cast flick, but I never cared for the screen play. Found it pretty hokey.

As far as the remake factor...... if there's an older movie that's pretty stodgy, but has promise, I'd be for it.

Used to watch the original with my grandpa, great memories. Looks like a fun movie and will be catching it.

As far as being tired of reboots/remakes? Hell no! Stories are meant to be retold and it brings light to the original version and remember the stars of the 60s.

I've never seen the original, hasn't it been like 50 years ?

I don't think the average person is really going to care.

The trailer looked nice. I may have to dig up the original.

ya....over 50. The original sported the coolest of the cool actors:

Brenner: 10 Commandments; The King and I; Westworld (though that was later)

Vaughn: The Man from UNCLE TV show

McQueen: Bullitt ; Papillion (later) .... just a masterful presence of cool.

Bronson: Once Upon a Time in the West; The Dirty Dozen

              Coburn: Our Man Flint (later)

Duffyboys actually Bullitt came later for McQueen same for the movies you listed for Bronson. Coming into the original Mag7 McQueen was known for The Blob and the TV series Wanted: Dead or Alive. Mag7 was more or less a star making turn for Bronson as he didn't do anything too major before then.

I realize... and once fans got more into these actors is when I think Mag7 built more and more appeal, but not sure. Just wish it would have had more screen punch, if you know what I mean.

Well, the original was a remake of the masterful Seven Samurai. Its been a crux of the film industry since its inception.

I like Pratt, but not sure I can buy him as a cowboy.
