    Re: Cord cutting

Tried out Sling, Directv Now, PS Vue, and Hulu Live on my Apple TV on my 1080p tv. Ended up sticking with Hulu live. I already used Hulu to watch all my new shows on demand and liked then having live tv in the same place.

Anyways, now I have a Sony 4k tv and a 4k Apple TV and the streaming quality of Hulu Live has really been bothering me. It looked bad, but I I just figured that’s the best you can do streaming live and it just looks bad in comparison to the 4k movies I’ve been watching.

Well, I read that Hulu is 720p while directv Now is 1080p and has 60fps so I decided to try it out again and it looks WAYYYYY better than Hulu. I’m watching Smackdown and I can’t even believe the difference.

Only draw back is the cheapest Directv Now plan costs the same I was paying for Hulu no commercials + live tv. But there are more channels so whatever. Don’t tell my wife.

They didn’t used to force the commercials. Now they do...unless you pay an extra $15 a month for enhanced dvr. One of the reasons I just cancelled. That and I found that directv now looks wayyyy better.

Didn't known about the 15 extra thing I just now I tried the trail on Hulu and had selected the package that said like no commercials or something and that was miss leading because when it would be a commercial break it forced me to watch adds kind of like how when you watch youtube and there are adds only you cant skip them like on regular youtube.

It is very misleading. The no commercials plan means no commercials when you watch something from the massive Hulu on demand library. If you record something off live tv onto dvr, there will be commercials you can’t skip unless you pay 15 more for enhanced dvr. They barely advertise this and it started not long ago.

It’s especially ridiculous in situations like, for example, I have SNL added to my
Library and it’s set to record. So if I watch my recorded version off the dvr there are commercials, but if I wait until late Sunday morning when the new episode is available in the regular on demand library, no commercials.

For streaming needs if you aren't using a playstation. I have DTVnow and using a Roku Ultra (or Premiere) was noticeably better than a firestick. Also, only Rokus have DVR funtionality on DTV now.

I watch alot of YouTube so the Amazon streamers had to go.

So thinking about going to internet only and getting rid of comcast cable but I am not really sure if it will save me much or like what internet speed to go with. Right now I am paying like 160 for internet and tv but man internet cost so darn much the cheapest is 77.95 after equipment and ever thing and google tv is for so that is 117.95 right there but I dont known if 60 mbps would be good enough for internet or not and if I go with the 150 mbps than my told price for it and youtube tv would be 132.95 if I go with 250 mbps it would than be 147.95.

Living in a rural area, we must bundle our internet with a landline. We're paying $130 for just 8 mbps and that ever-valuable landline. We subscribe to Dish for another $120. All of you living in areas with more choice, know that it could be worse.

Take a look and see if your area is getting upgraded. Basically they are running things on the power lines to the poles. Then from there you can get access as long as you live close enough to the pole at the street.

I can't remember what they are calling it, but they use radio waves and power lines to move the data. At&t and others are working on it.

With Verizon I am paying like 50-55 a month and I dont even have internet on the phone or any thing and I am still using a flip phone. My tv and internet was going to cost 187 next month with comcast. I was going to get rid of comcast before I got info about the phone and promotions and such. I would have been paying 94 for internet and 40 for youtube tv that means 134+ the 50-55 I am paying for phone. That means for phone tv and internet I would have been paying 184-189 a month. Now with having those 3 things threw comcast it will be like 150 and the 150 is cheaper than what I was paying before with just internet and tv.

I guess I can't complain to much. I have Comporium's middle tier fiber optic offering for $65/mo (they added $5/mo for having a static ip address) Also pay DTV Now $40/mo for their GoBig package (grandfathered into keeping that price). Hulu is $1/mo for my first year.
