I've never flown a drone beside those little tiny ones. You need to be an actually pilot for those tiny drones.

But I agree with RockinDaMike. I've heard good things about http://www.symatoys.com/ They were one of the first drones I looked at when I started looking a few years ago. But as time went by fingers pointed to DJI. Their the OG of commercial/civilian drones. It's why I shelled out the cash.

I've been pretty big into them the last 2 years or so. I've got a palm sized Cheerson, phantom clone (only in appearance) Syma X8, small Holy Stone Predator and the backpacker Hubsan H501s.

Haven't quite shelled out the cash for any of the big boys yet.

I have to say. Even though my girlfriend is giving me fak. It's worth every penny (and argument) lol. One of the best things is it flies without any pushing from you. Its powerful and fast for a little thing.

I have a Hubsan 502s and a AEE Turok 10. Love my Hubsan but it's so light the wind pushes it around. Almost got stuck in a tree the other day. Want a Phantom 3 or 4. Would love a Mavik Pro just out my spending range at this time.

If your a beginner there are two ways to go. A cheap one with at least a good altitude hold on it. Or save up and get a good GPS one Hubsan 501s, Phantom 3, and some others. So that at least the are easy to spare parts and the glorious "return to home" button.

I have used my return to home feature on my 501s only in controlled situations lol, it works good. It also has a follow mode, it focuses in on the transmitter. It works good.

I just wish a had a controllable gimbal and I'd be set. The 501s has a fixed camera angle.

Drones are sweet. I know a guy who takes a boat out to some remote areas then sends out the drone and takes some incredible pictures.

That being said, people need to respect the space of others. There was a drone hovering over my yard where my daughter and her friends were playing. Could have been a kid or a pervert controlling it, how would I know. Good thing I checked and its apparently a federal crime to shoot one down, I was about ready to unload on it with a pellet gun.

Regulation in the upcoming years will be interesting.

I imagine it's illegal to shoot since you are very likely to miss. Is it illegal to throw objects or capture with a net?

Any good drones in the $250-$300 range? I'd love a Mavic Pro, but can't justify $1,000+.

                        Hubsan 501S or Cheerson CX-20.

You could go little higher and go with a Phantom 3.

Maybe because I live in Brooklyn. But I never understood the thought process that someone 400 feet in the air is stalker someone. Come on people! Have you seen what people look like that high? I've seen a whole videos showing people what you see. I'll post it if I can find it. But all I've seen lately is people with this negative view told drones. Great example, I had a guy come up to me and say "That's an awesome machine. It's so stable. But if I saw that over my house. I'd shot it down." Is that what you say to someone? Like WTF? I had to explain to him why that was illegal smh.

But I crashed my Mavic yesterday. Rookie mistake on my part letting someone fly in a tight space. Never again. Thank god I had insurance.

But I got this lovely shot of Bushwick.

I also understand the reason people get so scared of these kinds of things.

Edit I found the video I was talking about.

What people don't understand is that it is a aircraft. If you shoot it down. It might kill someone because you caused it to malfunction.

But for the people who are really afraid of drones. They are developing a gun that will disable a drone mid flight and make it go into landing mode. So it doesn't go crashing to earth.

                            I found the video!

And guys I'm not saying it's right to stalker people. I just think they're more good apples then bad ones in the drone community. Like way more.

What kind of drone are you looking? Something that follows you? Something you fly really high. The genre for drones is spreading.

Yeah I think the public is misinformed on the camera capabilities of hobby quads/drones. Pretty sure there are none or few cameras attached to drones that can actually zoom in.. that the public can get ahold of.

Firing a weapon in the air at a drone, hey *******, the bullet has to come down.

Also as far as the drone gun that sends a signal or whatever and makes it land. There's maybe a handful of drones that would actually be effected by that.. unless the drone has an autoland feature.. pretty sure it's just gonna fall out of the sky.

                                Killer view.
