If Stan's mysterious lady is some sort of spy she didn't do a good job at getting any information.

What was the big deal about learning Lotus 1-2-3 from the woman Phillip jumped on?

Margo Martindale's appearance's are all too brief.

How will Liz deal with Ben now that she knows he's not a monster?

Finally a truly good episode. I like seeing main characters knocked down a peg like that. Their vulnerability (especially Phillip's) is a great part of the story.

And might I say, last night's episode was hilarious.

Yeah, Phillip is ripe for defection but would never do it because of Liz. You could see how demoralized he was when Paige said she was probably destined to be alone.

What the heck was young Philip and family eating-a black potato? The show did such a good job of making that hard to watch.

I don't understand what's happening. It's like the writers all took heavy sedatives before writing this season.

I think they're setting up some bigger things for the last six episodes but when the most interesting thing for the last two episodes is Phillip's promiscuous Lotus 1-2-3 girlfriend you have problems.

Paige's misery has finally gotten too annoying. Gabriel's announcement at the end regarding her unsuitability for this type of life might go somewhere, but I'm not sure her character is salvageable. She certainly could be suicidal.

Oleg in Russia dealing with US betrayal and food corruption has been a dud.

The pointed references to Phillip's feelings and The Center's preoccupation with them has been overdone.

Pastor Tim is probably still alive because The Americans likes to do the unexpected like announcing at the end that Beeman's girlfriend is not a Russian spy.

EDIT: Clearly the worst season to date and it's no contest.

This show has been on a downhill slide since Martha's climax and Paige got let in on the family secret. This season had been completely forgettable. I'm hoping that something good happens on the backend to salvage it. I mean, at least kill off Pastor Tim or something. Damn.

I think at this point his death becomes too complicated, because you have his wife and an already emotionally fragile Paige in the mix. It would be a bomb of a development though, and if you assume the writers had something in mind the moment they decided Paige was going to blab to Pastor Tim, anything is possible.

I don't think there's anything that can be done to "save" this season. This show has already fallen out of favor and it's damn near impossible to make me feel like I did about it before.

Haven't watched it yet but I'm not encouraged by the two most recent comments.

Look, there's a LOT of character development. A LOT. If you love that, that's fine and this season is still great.

The problem is though that The Americans found a way to give us incredible character development AND intensity/action. They, unlike other dramas that I pan in the TV threads on a seemingly-incessant basis, found a fantastic balance between the two and it became the best show on TV.

Pretty much every episode this year has been almost exclusively character development, but it lost the punch and edge that made this show what it was. It doesn't even do the character development thing in a truly interesting way.

                              It's just....floating along.

                                Agree with that^^.

Did some things just catch up with the show?.... like Paige and Pastor Tim knowing, Gabriel never being as interesting as Claudia, and the loss of great characters like "John-Boy" Gaad and Martha....and then they put too much emphasis on straight shooter Oleg in Russia.

Even the fake relationships that Phillip and Elizabeth have aren't as interesting. 8 episodes down, 5 to go.
