I stopped watching This Is Us after about 4 episodes in season one. Not because it was bad, but because I really didn't need a scheduled cathartic cry every week. But flipping channels later I saw that Milo was in the hospital, which was weird, since I thought, from promos, he was supposed to die in a fire. So I decided to watch a bit and see how it turned out.
Goddammit, and I can't even claim it was dusty, because I was blubbering like drunk Pats fan. Seriously, I checkout for most of the last season, and all of this season until tonight, and it still just kills me. What's weird is that the sucker punch Milo's wife gets is almost like what my wife got. She walks out of the room for 10 minutes, comes back in, and I'm all waterworks. I try to explain, and only cry more.
But I do cry when watching some stuff. No kidding, the worst was a PBS documentary about chickens told as several vignettes about people with connections to chickens. the last story was a guy explain gin why he thought the term chicken, for someone lacks bravery was misplaced.
He had a chicken farm, and one was this weird white frilly chicken that didn't fit in. This hen tried so hard to mother chicks of the other hens, but was chased away. Then one day she finally hated her own litter, and she would proudly lead them around the yard.
One day the farmer noticed some the chickens acting weird, and he realized that they had spotted a hawk, and chickens stated panicking and hiding. Well, the white hen saw her little chick out in the middle of the yard and the hawk was bearing down. And this white hen ran to the her chick and dove on it like it was a grenade about to go off, and the hawk wounded on her back.
The farmer came out and the hawk took off, and he was just heartbroken, how the hen had sacrificed herself for the chick. Then, at the last second, the white hen popped up and was okay.
My wife made fun of me for a long time over that one. And yeah, I teared up just thinking about that story.
