    Re: Lion King

Heard somewhere couple weeks ago that they didn't want the animals to have human facial expressions like they did in the cartoon. Saw in a review a week before where someone said how the animals just showed their teeth when they smiled or laughed. Lot of people who didn't like the movie seems to be because of this very reason. Thought it may be a problem for a lot of people, don't think it will be a problem for me but will see...can't wait to see it.

I went in with low expectations and I left happy. I enjoyed that movie. Brought back a lot of childhood memories. Well done movie!

          Re: Lion King

Went in with an open mind and was fairly disappointed. Many attempts to replicate a good number of the scenes. A fairly high percentage of the duplicated phrases didn’t have the same inflection as in the animated version making it seem bland. Of course, the novelty just couldn’t be there, and I think that hurt it too. Don’t get me wrong, the production value was quite incredible, but certain things I think were also avoided for fear of some possible backlash (see spoiler). Making Rafiki a mandrill and not a baboon was head-scratching. Thought his character was actually pretty dull compared to his animated counterpart. It was okay overall, but would have rather waited for it to be released for home viewing later.

This is exactly what turned me off in the trailers. It didnt even look like the animals were speaking which made the entire thing look and sound disjointed.

It’s funny. The Lion King is my favorite Disney animated film of all time. I was 19 years old when it released in the theaters. Went with my girlfriend back then. Then shared it with my son when he was 2 years old and he probably watched it everyday for 2 straight months LOL.

So this will have a lot to live up to and I can’t expect it to ever replace the joy of the original.

Its my favorite animated Disney movie of all time to only I was 5 when it came out lol. I need to watch Jungle book 2016 again only saw it once but I heard that the animals in that did show emotion and that was made by the same guy. I think they were worried about it being like creepy having them show emotion because of how realistic the CGI looks but I think that was a big mistake to not try to make them show more emotion.

The Lion King was my favorite animated Disney Movie growing up too. I think I was 16 when it came out. I went and saw this one on Sunday. It was well done, but I just couldn't get into it. It may have been that the voice acting was so different. I thought with the animated one, everyone was perfect for their animal. This one just seems off. Donald Glover was by far the best, other than JEJ, better than Broderick I think.

Eww, if people said that for those two but not The Lion King, then I really don't have high hopes for it.

Full disclosure, I liked Aladdin but did not like Beauty and the Beast (and love the originals of all three movies), and was not close to wowed by either of them.

Beauty and The Beast is my #2 and the remake was good...but the original is tops.

I have not seen Aladdin yet. Going to wait on that as well as The Lion King....but I have a feeling my son wants to see The Lion King which along with Toy Story 1 and 2 is his all time fav's from Disney.

Trust me. Save your money. The only reason I went is because we were visiting my daughter at college and the family wanted to go. I felt like I spent $12 on a rerun.

Admittedly I have to give The Jungle Book a chance again. I was multitasking while watching it (grading tests). It didn't grab me, but that's not to say that it can't.

                                Re: Lion King

Not sure exactly what was "WOW" about Beauty and the Beast. To me these "live action" remakes' entertainment value is purely while sitting and watching the movie. The Lion King was beautiful, the cast was great, but just like all the others it's hard to measure up to an original that is now considered a timeless classic.

I enjoyed this as much as the others I've seen, but none of them really persuade you to watch more than once. For me that's and apparently many other Disney fans that's just as well. My viewing experience was wonderful and I enjoyed every minute of it. The old bits worked. The new bits worked. Its a gorgeous looking movie. If you're a Disney fan definitely see it because you will enjoy it.
