Re: The Joker 2019
A friend of mine who loved the film supposes that:
SpoilerThe whole movie was in the Joker's insane head and that the only real scene was at the end in the asylum.
His reasoning is the fact that delusional behavior was already clearly exhibited so where does it begin and end? If the movie took place in 1981 before the release of the first camcorder who took the video pictures in the obscure nightclub that captured Arthur's nutty act and led to him being booked on Murray's show? Of course if this was in Arthur's mind while in a 2019 asylum he might have memories of watching videos routinely being transferred to millions on a regular basis.
His thoughts not mine, but it got me thinking although I don't believe this is a popular theory.Comment

My belief
SpoilerThe movie tells you everything that was in Arthurs imagination, from when he was in the audience with Murray and mostly everything with Zazzie Beats except maybe the first interaction in the elevator.
As for the camcorder thing, i believe its a tv camera as i've seen stands up in the 70's clubs so it wouldn't be hard to believe it was recorded especially a nice New York club which it was.Comment

Re: The Joker 2019
Can't remember seeing a movie that I wasn't sure I even liked but couldn't stop thinking about it the rest of the day yesterday. I dunno, there's a lot going on but at the same time I feel like not a lot really happens. It's a mediocre movie that's elevated to solid solely because of Joaquin Phoenix.
I still can't even put into words how I feel about it, there were things I liked but I was also definitely bored in stretches, especially during the first half. Basically in my opinion if it was any other actor but Joaquin Phoenix this movie would have been legitimately bad but he's just so good and fun to watch he made up for the script and lack of...things actually happening until he visits the hospital.Comment

Re: The Joker 2019
Too dramatic and boring overall, all the way down the final scene! Just never really got interesting, he's a great actor. But this movie was dull and boring throughout.
Even his laugh was terrible and just over done and just made me realize, he's not The (DC Joker)
He's just a Joker!
Movie gets 2/5 stars from me, just because of the acting! Movie was super low budget and just never got good!Comment

Re: The Joker 2019
I think if you are around someone or people that have dealt with trauma, mental illness, etc then this movie just hits on a whole different level.

The Joker 2019
As someone who to deal with this kind of **** everyday going to work, yeah for sure.
I was primed on here by people say it was dark, but I did not see that angle coming here.
All in all I thought it was a tremendous film.
Definitely a lot of parts of the movie were shot in the Bronx and Upper Manhattan. I recognized a lot of spots that were showed.

Re: The Joker 2019
My wife and I saw it today...
I walked away thinking it was the most bizarre, disturbing, interesting, boring and unique movie I've ever seen.
It drags at times - but I get it: it's an "introspective" type of movie where the individual scenes without dialogue are meant to create emotional pictures.
I think the movie is clearly pushing propaganda - there is the political agenda, and I also felt like he has little to no consequences to his behavior and actions.
Honestly, I think I like Heath Ledger's version of the Joker more because it brought more humor into the darkness and didn't go so heavy on the "victim mindset" presented in this one. They could have cut 15-20 minutes from this movie and actually made it better.
Overall, I felt it was worth my time to see. The door was clearly left open for a follow-up. I don't want to come across like a prude - I did find it interesting. But I wouldn't go overboard with the hype-train.STEELERS INDIANS CELTICS

Re: The Joker 2019
So long as you don't think said agenda is akin to what the media and initial critics deemed as "inspiring incels," then the political push won't feel too anti-Academy thankfully. This movie was about mental illness and classism, and in those regards I think they pushed the right buttons. Sometimes a bit on-the-nose, but whatever the first word about this movie was bore no such resemblance to what I saw.
Personally, I still think my least favorite aspect of this movie was:
SpoilerAny greater tie-in to Batman than we needed. I know he needed to be in Arkham instead of Chicago or New York or wherever, but any time the city name reared its head or a Wayne was mentioned, I was kind of taken out of it. Basically, for me this movie didn't need to be called "Joker" for me to like it for what it was. I was really craving this for the supposed detachments to the comic book telling that could have come with it. They of course had to go the extra mile and kill Bruce's parents onscreen again. I liked that they winked at a possible sibling connection and subsequently retconned it, but mostly because it got us thinking as an audience and it developed the arc between Arthur and his mother. Ultimately though, any time they went to Thomas Wayne was a deviation in the story for me.
And for the love of god, if I get this on Blu-ray, I'm immediately going to see if I can...
Spoiler... edit out the cutaways showing the shots with and without Sophie as she was only present in his mind.
I love how Pitch Meetings calls immediate attention to it as well, heh.

Re: The Joker 2019
Agreed this was so damn boring, and I also agree it shouldn't have been called Joker, because like I said before this isn't the Joker.
First the Suicide Squad version and now this! No thanks to both of them.
Last great interpretation of the Joker was Jeremiah on Gotham.Last edited by Behindshadows; 10-12-2019, 06:56 PM.Comment

I mean, if we're gonna talk about people not being Joker, it's an interesting time to bring up Jeremiah.Boston Red Sox

Re: The Joker 2019
It's why they wrote in shows script, just call me something with a "J" etc.
And called Bruce Wayne The Dark Knight and not Batman...I guess Bruce Wayne wasn't Batman either since he didn't get called it? *sarcasm
Jeremiah was the Joker! And the show had Harley Quinn and more! A lot of legal paperwork, didn't allow the names. But he was the last true interpretation of the real DC Joker and that's a Fact!Comment
