I like what they did with MJ. For me, it never made sense that this awkward nerdy dude was out here pulling the popular hot chics. It makes a helluva lot more sense to me for Peter Parker to end up with someone like MJ than Mary Jane.

Re: Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019)
I like the MJ in the Spider-Man PS4 game as well. There was a cinematic cut scene with both Peter and MJ in her apartment that was just a fun watch, and it was a "realistic matching." Of course, they are broken up when you first start the game (I haven't finished so I don't know where it goes from there yet) so they aren't exactly a couple at that point anyway. I'm just saying I don't exactly think Peter outkicked his coverage in that game.
I do like Zendaya as MJ, though. She is hilarious in the first movie especially. I also kind of like how she was revealed as MJ in the end rather than the beginning though, that way we could focus on Peter with Liz during that time. Plus, it lets others who are off-put of a different-looking MJ to warm up to that character more before becoming too prejudging.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019)
It's been "confirmed" that Deadpool will make his MCU debut in Spider-Man 3, and will make a couple other cameos before joining the Avengers for their next movie (which sounds like it won't be happening for a while, especially if it's after Spider-Man 3).
And Marvel has also said that any solo movies they make will still be rated R. I assume when he's in other movies they'll find some way to censor him, and he'll make jokes about it.Boston Red Sox

Re: Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019)
I'm glad I'm not the only one. We saw it Saturday. I'm not going to say I'm disappointed nor was it a bad movie. It's a really good movie that has a lot of good things going for it. Like with Homecoming something about this just feels off. I don't know what it is. I'm getting the feeling that I'm just not digging all the changes they're making to Spider-Man. Not that it's upsetting me and I understand everything they're doing, but it just feels off.
Part of it I think is the whole high-school kid thing which they didn't really do anything with this movie. I much prefer the college and Daily Bugle years, but with the mid-credits scene that doesn't seem like a possibility here unless they put MJ into the "investigative reporter" career track.
I understand what they're going for basically replacing Ben with Iron Man as far as Peter's "responsibility motivation" and obviously Mysterio plays upon Peter's vulnerability there. It's an easy setup and doesn't require much development. Mysterio became much more interesting in the second half of the movie despite the similarities to Iron Man 3 and the Mandarin. I feel like they pulled it off much better here than they did previously, but to me the great thing about the majority of Peter's villains is they have some kind of personal connection to him. Even the Vulture in the last movie was tied back to his classmate and love interest. This feels like they tried to do that by making Mysterio the "Iron Man replacement" in all ways. It helps that their scenes together are great, but I feel like they need a little bit deeper dive before Peter unloads those glasses.
The Happy/May stuff felt exactly what it was: filler. It was kind of funny at the beginning, but it got tired to me by the end. Maybe it's because I didn't enjoy the wedging in of all the Iron Man stuff so far in this series, but it felt flat to me. There was a really good Happy/Peter scene and of course the chemistry, again, is great.
The special effects for Mysterio and the action scenes were all great, but I'll be damned if by the end I wasn't wishing for a movie-verse Fisk and his spider-bots.
Anyway, it's a good movie and I enjoyed it from start to finish. The action scenes are great. Holland has chemistry for freaking everybody it seems. The MJ/Peter relationship is being developed really well and honestly there's a lot of compelling things to watch unfold. Still, I can't help but feel like something is off and I can't place my finger on what exactly it is.

Re: Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019)
Put me in the camp of shy, awkward MJ being the best MJ. I'll be sad in the future when someone eventually reverts the character back to her traditional portrayal. Yeah, the high school stuff is a slog for me, but I know that I'm not the target audience for this now, so it is what it is.
It's interesting how live action has made so many Spider-Man villains so much more compelling than their comic book portrayals, IMO. Vulture, Mysterio were always, just whatever to me, but they pop on the screen. I expect that the actors portraying them play a big part in making that happen.

Same here. I liked the setup and the reveal, but it seems too soon to fling him into that **** storm. Oh well. Plenty of things to pull from with the comics. Wonder if the scene with the police they cut was affected by this?

Re: Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019)
Spoiling about the mid-credit scene discussion just to be safe:
SpoilerI thought it was too soon as well. But the more I've thought about it, the more I find that it would just be impossible in this age to actually keep a secret identity. I don't think any other of the characters has a secret identity, and I think it was more fitting for this day in age to have Peter exposed by a hidden camera/uploaded video.
All of that is to say that I'm okay with it, and really intrigued by what happens going forward with the character.Comment

Wasn't Spidey on the "pro-registered super hero list" side in Civil War? So he should be A-OK with this.
Seriously, though. I was hoping for at least one movie of MJ knowing before the secret got out. It's a ficitonal character so having him keep his secret identity is certainly doable especially when part of his "costume" is the fact that is he simply a high-school kid and nobody would suspect a kid to be Spider-Man.
This is probably another one of those things that they do with the character that I don't really like, but will roll with anyway. Not sure how much I can keep saying that, though. He's already bigger than just the friendly neighborhood, Spider-Man. And he hasn't even graduated high-school yet. A lot of MJ and Peter's conflicts seemed to arise from his constant need (ie: responsibility) to help those in need no matter how small. With this Spider-Man I don't really see him rushing to stop a mugging or help a kid find her lost brother when there's bigger problems in the world.
And that's fine. We don't need to see every aspect of Spider-Man's life, but they're throwing him into the deep end relatively early in this version's life and the connection just isn't there for me.
Anyway. We left before the second bonus scene. Can someone please explain that one to me because the article I read didn't do a good job of it.

Fury and Hill were in the car talking, and they revealed themselves to actually be Talos and his wife Soren, the Skrulls from Captain Marvel. They made a phone call to someone, which turned out to be Nick Fury who was actually on a spaceship (that a lot of people think is S.W.O.R.D., the cosmic half of S.H.I.E.L.D.). Which then sets up the question of "If Nick Fury and Maria Hill were actually Skrulls this whole movie, who else has been a Skrull, and for how long?"
Which is basically the set-up for Secret Invasion.Boston Red Sox

Re: Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019)
So the two things mentioned above are two of the bigger problems I did have with this film, or at least its reveals getting me to look back at it and go: "Welp, that doesn't bode as strongly for me as it could have."
The first one, and I know I've mentioned it before, is that Spider-Man (since Homecoming) is basically another Iron Man. He has that suit, and went pretty far with it this next time with Happy as well. I know he needed it for Infinity War going into space, but I wish that he was essentially without it at all times otherwise. This nanotech stuff has gone way above and beyond what I hoped they'd do with it (in a bad way). Now I don't mind if they did it by the "third film" or whatever, but here I thought it was too soon.
That brings me to the JJJ reveal that SM is PP (sorry for the abbv). I love that it was J.K. Simmons and all, but he may be a throwaway just for that bit and I feel once again that it's too soon, especially since as FT said we don't get a film where just MJ knows. I like where it might head towards, but if Tom Holland really wants to do like six SM films or whatever, man that is early to make these things happen (maybe they don't get that far either though, who knows?).
The third thing was the Skrulls thing. While I did question why Fury was so stupid the entire movie as I was watching it and that alleviates that "plot hole" of sorts, I didn't like that it wasn't actually Fury having those moments with Peter, almost as if those are all moot now. It's like there was a "day reset" in Happy Death Day where I said to myself: "Man, I wish that one was the one that didn't reset," because I like where it brought some of the characters with regard to their interactions. And then yes, it begs the question: "Who else is a Skrull?" Unlike Mission: Impossible with masks, these guys can play other characters for as long as they want to, not just for a single scene. I don't look forward to being hoodwinked by more Skrulls revealing themselves to be other characters.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment
