    Re: Star Wars: Episode IX

I never said it was a direct dollar for dollar comparison.

I was just pointing out how sports and movies aren't that different.

But yes, the internet outrage over movies and shows is completely ridiculous.

To get emotionally invested into “Star Wars” or any movie series for that matter to incite the internet outrage we see is beyond absurd.

      IMO.

What about videogames? No offense, but I see you making countless posts and threads every year about how disappointed you are in Madden and yet you keep buying it and repeat the cycle.

One could simply say the internet outrage about Madden or any videogame is absurd.

Are you serious? I make countless threads and posts???

Ok man you have me mixed up with someone else.

I do sliders for Madden and praise more than criticize....and I seriously have no idea what you are taking about.

I have a lot of fun with video games. And give constructive feedback on Madden, The Show and 2K.

Not internet tirades and psychotic behavior about video games.

That's fine. But when a movie deserves more criticism than praise, that doesn't mean that people are taking it overboard.

WTF are you talking about. I am not talking about this thread.

I am making a general statement about Reddit and over the top fandom.

            Relax man.

Are you one of those ridiculous Star Wars fanatics? Because you seem to be taking this way too personally.

I have no issues with critiquing movies. In fact I am not fond of The Last Jedi.

I am talking about when I see petitions to remove a movie as cannon?

Give me a break.....that’s “get a life” type of stuff to me.

Its not just here from looking online like ever were and hearing what people say about star wars fans don't agree on any thing, and opinions are all over the place. Most movies and franchise or heck even video games you can find like a over all idea of things that most people agree on but not with star wars. The only thing star war fans seem to agree on is that John Williams music is amazing that is it. When it comes to this trilogy the fact that some people say its worse then the PT makes me want to cry has i find the PT to be just such a joke that i just don't get how any one can fell that way. But yeah its really not just this form. Go like any where and you will see how people rank star war movies from best to worst is so different from person to person. I am convinced when it comes to star war fans they will complain about ever thing.

                  Star Wars: Episode IX

I gotta go back and read the reaction to TLJ. I was more upset at the opening crawl of this trying to fill in an extra movie that never happened and alerting me to a message that Palpatine sent the galaxy through ****ing Fortnite than anything in that movie.

Random but were there a lot of caps locked words in the crawl this time or was that just me?

Yes, there were. But until a prequel trilogy comes out to properly set up Rise of Skywalker, it has to be that way so you'll know which words are important

This is a good point, and it is one that I tried to qualify in my post. There is a different level of contempt when arguing that a sports team which has not seen great success "will this year". The Browns probably aren't a great example either since a lot of "experts" picked them to make the playoffs this year. Even if you were a fan of the Bengals though the difference is still apparent in that you're much less likely to be called something along the lines of "toxic fandom" that, for instance, Star Wars fans were labeled as after TLJ.

Sports are competition, but pro sports exists for entertainment. Objectively, I don't get any more tangible reward by the Braves (my favorite sports team) winning the world series than I do from reading some fantastic book. My reward in either case is whatever I make it out to be, and this is the basis for fandom. There is no reason that anyone should get excited or even care what happens with a particular sports team any more than they should care or get excited about the results of a book/movie. We do though because we're fans with a certain passion.

Which further feeds my point. You are making a statement which implies that sports "fanaticism" is superior than that of other mediums even though the basis for becoming "emotionally invested", as you say, in a sports team is no more valid. Arguably, if we're talking about what will end poorly for someone, then it's far more likely that attaching your ego to the success of a sports franchise will end poorly.

People don't argue if it's awesome. Do you see people argue and debate/rage over Rogue One or The Mandalorian? Nope, because they are both awesome, just like the OT.

The PT and ST are far from awesome, hence the outrage/debate over them.

Rogue one is way overrated and i think its only a matter of time before people turn on Mandaloran. I disagree the ST is great.
