Re: Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin In Hot Water
The only thing I don't really understand is how they got the transcripts submitted and approved. Sure you can lie on your application, but you would have to then fabricate the transcripts afterward

I know you work for a college and are very familiar with the process, my wife also works for admissions at Pitt and we were talking about it a bit. It's no surprise to anyone that athletes get a pass.
She actually mentioned today that her director today had talked to them and mentioned that he caught something fishy a couple years ago and changed the policy at the school so any exception to the approval process for an athlete with poor transcripts would require a written letter from the coach guaranteeing the student would be on the team.Comment

Re: Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin In Hot Water
The hilarious thing is people thinking that college means a ****ing thing.
The entire thing itself is a scam.
If someone offered me hundreds of thousands of dollars to admit their worthless kid into my worthless school, I'd tell them "hey, go buy a house instead."Comment

Re: Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin In Hot Water
I don't think transcripts were altered. From what I understand, the scam was getting people admitted under the false pretense they were athletes.

Re: Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin In Hot Water
Shoot, I didn't realize this is as big as it was. Guess I should have explored it further.
This I agree with though, and this is one of the points that I was kind of implying when I said that I don't really think this is super detrimental. Things like colleges attended being a massive deciding factor for your future is rather unfortunate. It should be the education that you received, not where you received it.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin In Hot Water
Apparently the 15k paid was the exact same amount in a desperate housewives episode dealing with same issue 15 years ago.
Why even bother going to school if you have that much money and cant get in on own merits? Isnt a big part of going to college to get a degree to help get a job so you can make money?
Don't know how legit this one is, but I remember in college one of my professors said you could get "authentic looking degrees" in the black market(I think price was in low 5 figure range). If the employer emails or calls the school to check, they'll know you lied. If they just look at the authentic looking degree, they'll believe its legit. That sounds alot easier than what apparently happened here.Last edited by Majingir; 03-14-2019, 10:16 PM.Comment

Re: Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin In Hot Water
There are quite a few ways people with money "help" their kids get into colleges. What happened here just seems needlessly complicated compared to what we usually hear about these things.Comment

Re: Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin In Hot Water
I think in this case it's more about what the rich parents wanted and especially in the case of Huffman and Loughlin all about image-the scam's purpose was probably nothing more than being able to brag to your friends about how smart your kids are.Comment

In contrast to her earlier application [….] the second application falsely stated that she rowed crew [….], and was taking classes at a number of schools, including Santa Monica College, Rio Salado College, and The University of Colorado at BoulderComment

Re: Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin In Hot Water
My thing is, some of these kids need to be prosecuted too. Some of them posed for fake pictures and played "dumb" so they could get labeled with a learning disability to be able to take the SAT/ACT 1:1 with a fixer. How easy is it to fake a learning disability? Kinda surprised no doctors have been indicted. One of them bragged about cheating the system.
If they knew, they should get expelled from school at the very least. If they have already graduated, the school should make that information public knowledge.
Dude "helped" 750+ families, some were legit. No telling how many of those were the cheating method.Last edited by GAMEC0CK2002; 03-16-2019, 04:08 PM.Comment

Gotcha. Yeah, I don't think the high schools were involved at all. It was the college applications/test scores.
