I never said any of the stuff you said. I 100% believe this casting decision was done to provide an opportunity to a minority.

And to ODogg, I'm talking about minorities in terms of opportunity, not population. White people might become the minority population, but I doubt white people will ever have fewer opportunities than any other group in this country.

I got tired of the back and forth. Hope this is good. Because I wasn't feeling Spectre. Think that was the last one.

Yeah, Spectre had some good scenes here and there and I like Lea Seydoux, but Christoph Waltz was so terribly underused and Sam Mendes somehow forgot how to direct action and Hoyte Van Hoytema somehow forgot how to shoot films in general. Plus, Daniel Craig looked bored the entire film. The only person who looked like he tried in the film was Ben Whishaw (Q). Train scene was fantastic, but that was the only high point. Bad opening credits too, and that stands for something in a Bond film.

Plus, they tried too hard to connect it to Casino Royale and Skyfall, and for some reason decided to completely ignore Quantum of Solace at every turn. It would have been better if it was just its own thing.

I heard that Rami Malek is the villain in this one, and that piques my interest more than anything else, plus the fact that Craig is actually interested in playing the character again. I think this story idea about having a new 007 bring Craig back into the mix is actually a fascinating idea, especially if it heightens his importance, even if he officially hands over the reigns by the end. But I'm definitely game to watch this one.

Plus, they're going to shoot some sequences in IMAX. Can't miss out on that.

Skyfall and Casino Royale were so damn good. I have trouble deciding which one I liked better.

Hancock is the last film I can think of that had blockbuster tendencies, a huge black star attached, and did really well in the box office. But that also sat in development hell for something like 15 years. I would bet it's because at the time Hollywood was worried that superhero films wouldn't make money and the superhero was black.

Now seems like a good time for Hollywood to get serious about it, or rather for Marvel to get more serious about it. But right now, most of their black heroes are simply not very well-known and don't fit in the motion picture, big budget Hollywood trope. Black Panther was their best fit and they went for it to great success.

But would a stand-alone film about a new, original superhero do well no matter that character's skin color? I don't think Hollywood studios or Disney have the confidence to try that yet.

Well, we all know there are probably more failures in creative ventures than there are successes. Hell, that's the case with new businesses as well. But, so what? Why does there need to be a guarantee in this? There's no guarantees in pretty much anything. But wouldn't we agree that at this time in history, more than ever, if the need is to have a minority (well, by US/Canada perspective) figure, then this would be the time?

Skyfall is very good and so damn beautiful, and in many ways is likely a much better Bond film. But Casino Royale is one of my favorite films of all time, so in that regard it’s absolutely no contest for me. CR wins.

Okay, women are taking away mens jobs, they gotta throw us a freakin' bone, give us some of their roles. Like, if therea ever a remake of I Love Lucy, it needs to be something like I Love Lucky or Laverne and Shirley could be Vern and Shorty.
But Charlies Angels, we can all agree to let good actresses to keep doing that fine job they do.

Sucks that Idris Elba has basically nixed the idea of him ever being James Bond. He doesn't like the idea of the color of his skin being the most talked about thing about him taking the role. He got tired of it. Nowadays it's like everyone wants it to be a damn fight, and we can't just have a great actor be a great actor without the media reminding us of stuff that does not matter.

He specifically said if asked he would say yes.

True, he said if he was asked he'd be interested. But he also said he's not going to make an effort to pursue it. We can only hope.

Re: 007 is now a woman

I guess I just wanted to clarify he hasn't nixed the idea, the media focus isn't the reason he isn't Bond. The reason he isn't Bond is because he hasn't been asked. I'm also not sure if him pursuing the role would make a difference, the powers that be hear the clamor, all they have to do is point and pick.

It's the media blame more than anything I guess. The idea that it would be the media, as opposed to the masses that react to a Black Bond, I don't think that's what he was saying. But as you said, can only hope.

Ah, we've entered the "misplaced guilt" and "blame the media" portion of the discussion. Probably time to dip out of here until the movie releases.

The media here isn't to blame for anything. Although they do have a lot to be guilty for, not here.

Anyways, for all the conversing, in regards to this movie I will watch it and give it a chance. I'm not going to pay to see it at the theater though. But then I haven't done that for any Bond films so that's pretty much how I roll.

It'll be hard for anyone to top Daniel Craig in my view. I have enjoyed him being 007 more than anyone to date, although my mom and many purists say Sean Connery is the best.
