Noo, don't tell me that about Insidious 5... I was afraid it will be the case. Well, for nostalgia reasons, I'll watch it. But sadly, haven't heard any to positive impressions so far...

I wouldn't worry about it, I've heard some movies trashed that I ended up loving, movies are often a personal experience, esp horror movies.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

Re: OS Official Horror Movie Thread
But any Insidious fan will probably tell you it was easily the weakest in the the series....which up to this point has been very strong.
But yes.....there are some cult classics that were/to this day hated.
Halloween III Season of the Witch
I love it.......there I said it.Now Playing on PS5:

Re: OS Official Horror Movie Thread
That new Exorcist flick by David Gordon Green apparently didn't do to good at review screenings...
The highly-anticipated horror movie The Exorcist: Believer reportedly bombed at a recent test screening held in New York.
I'm sorry, but this is a movie that has/had absolutely NO reason to be done again, also I had no idea that a 3 movie trilogy is set to be released much in the same way Halloween was, in which DGG did a horrible job with those movies (imo)...especially Ends.
Horror films are my absolute favorite genre, and it really bothers me to see these "reboots" or whatever..I mean seriously? taking what's probably 2 of the most iconic horror classics in The Exorcist and Halloween and "rebooting" them?
Off the top of my head, the top 5 horror movies that absolutely did NOT need any remakes or reboots...of course imo...lol
1-The Omen
2-The Exorcist
3-Nightmare on Elm Street
4-Friday the 13th
5-Halloween
Every single one of these are absolute classics and should NOT have been touched (imo)
Ok...so we have talked about Halloween before.
I will say Rob Zombies interpretation to me was damn good. A different vibe (think late 70’s white trash version of Halloween). I loved the first act showing Michael as a young teenager and why he became what he became....it was just a different take. I thought Malcom McDowell did Donald Pleasence proud with his version of Dr Loomis.
Zombies Halloween II was an unmitigated disaster.
Now....Halloween 2018 I thought was great. I loved it. Halloween Kills (save for the hospital scene and Michael Anthony Halls casting as Tommy Doyle) was damn good.
Halloween Kills.....sucked to high heaven. Total trash. And I don’t even care to ever see it again. As far as I am concerned.....the series ends with Halloween Kills as far as the alternate story path.
My preferred path is
Halloween 1978
Halloween II (with it ending right there)
or
Halloween 1978
Halloween 2018
Halloween Kills
You could even say it ends with Halloween 2018 and assume Michael burned to death in Laurie’s booby trapped home.Last edited by Armor and Sword; 07-26-2023, 09:12 PM.Now Playing on PS5:

Re: OS Official Horror Movie Thread
There are going to be duds, but there have been a lot of good horror films released in the last 5 years.
Either in theaters or on streaming services, it's a great time to be a fan of horror movies. Obviously, like with any other "genre films" Hollywood will push out re-boots and sequels.
Still, the good movies (either independent or major studio) are out there.

Re: OS Official Horror Movie Thread
I just saw Talk To Me and gotta say that A24 hit another one out of the park.
It felt like a movie that hits on a lot of similar themes to their other "Elevated Horror" fare, but dealing with more "mainstream" horror elements (urban legends, teen protagonists, possession, etc.
I'll wait a week or two before I give more in-depth thoughts and I want to catch a re-watch as well. I would recommend it if you want to see something more creepy with some brutal scenes, yet more of a character study.
I also saw The Sadness on Shudder. It was a gory, over-the-top violent affair. It has some interesting parallels between real-world viral outbreaks, people's distrust of government and the release of "official" information (via the media). Be warned that this movie isn't for the faint of heart, although not as gory as I made it out in my mind (much like the "French Extreme" classic Martyrs).

Yeah, I really loved that movie. It did some amazing things with creating a feeling of paranoia, isolation and fear. I would definitely suggest that anyone watch it during a snowstorm or dark, rainy night to give the movie added effect.

So I need to see Talk To Me. Noted.
I saw The Sadness…..OMG man. Extremely gory and insane. Not for the faint of heart. Also a lot of sexual horror. So if that offends you be forewarned. I will watch this again. It was brutal.
I am watching The Lodge tonight on Max. Really looking forward to it.

The Conjuring universe is outstanding.
The Insidious universe (save for part 5) is outstanding.
Some really stylish horror recently:
Hereditary
Mid-Somar
I will also post some outstanding foreign horror. To me horror fans have never had better access to great horror films than today with Netflix and Shudder. There is a ton of great horror around the globe.

Re: OS Official Horror Movie Thread
^ Yep, and there are some gems within the Conjuring Universe, like Annabelle: Creation.
Hereditary is my favorite horror film since The Conjuring 2 and Saw.
I'd also add - It Follows, The Ritual, The Autopsy of Jane Doe, A Quiet Place, NOPE, and Get Out.Rice Owls - Houston Astros/Dynamo/Rockets/Texans - Arsenal - PSGComment

Re: OS Official Horror Movie Thread
Ouija: Origin of Evil is one of the best PG-13 & prequel horror films ever, IMO.
That film has no right being so good, but that's what happens when a great director like Mike Flanagan is at the helm.
Anything by him (Oculus, Gerald's Game, Hush, Absentia, etc.) is worth watching again, IMO.
