It took The Simpsons, what, ten seasons before it really got bland repetitive, Family Guy has already reached that point with only about three and a half seasons worth of episodes. Ouch.

FG on the other hand is built up on pop culture references with very broad characters with no real backbone to them. I've found in the newer eps that they're over-relying on the pop culture stuff and hence the show is becoming a parody of itself.
I'm not saying I don't watch it anymore as there are still some VERY funny moments but the experience feels a bit empty. It's like you've just wasted 30 minutes of your life watching a show that has no real heart to it. If you know what I mean.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Originally posted by SPTOThat's the difference between THE SIMPSONS and FG. THE SIMPSONS took an approach similar to most other sitcoms in terms of how they structure the show. If you look at some of the best SIMPSONS episodes there is an element of reality. Yes you sometimes get outlandish sequences but the heart of the episode has something we can all relate to.

Yep I got into the downfall of THE SIMPSONS earlier in this thread. I've noticed that about FG now. I'd see comercials for an episode and they'd tell you what's going to happen and more often then not the story that was mentioned in the ad happens after the last comercial break!Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: New Family Guy on tonight...
So was there a new episode tonight? I saw a short clip with Peter unwrapping part of Lois's body cast to use as toilet paper. Is that in this new one?Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Originally posted by EspecialKWow. Bring this up in 15 years and see which show lasted longer. I don't think you've watched The Simpsons much over the last couple of years if you're making a statement like that. By the way, I've been a big fan of FG since it was on FOX the first time around. I remember watching The Simpsons when they were short clips during the Tracey Ullman Show too. Been a fan since season 1.
And I don't get what most of you are saying that Family Guy is changing for the worse. If I watch an episode from this season, and then an episode from the past, I don't see much difference.
I will agree that there is a lot more random stuff thrown in there, but that's FG's thing, it's so freakin random that its hilarious.Comment

Originally posted by BlzerIMO, when it comes down to it, whether or not I laugh is basically all that matters to me. I could care less what the story is. I highly doubt that was ever the intensive purpose of this show (at least, not over the comedy aspect).

It depends on what you enjoy. I don't like "black" comedy that they put out on Comedy Central, especially the Chappelle Show. I was so freakin' happy when it was off the air, but now it's coming back on.
