Those are the facts. You can like whichever system you wish, but the power is with Sony this time around. Granted, it will probably cost 50% more than the 360.
It certanly is more powerful but I do think as far as the processor/memory only marginally so. The main difference is in the Blu-Ray and the second Video.

I can argue the fact that pure power will matter less and less.

Massive development teams are already strapped to the limit producing this gen's games. More processing power doesn't mean squat if it can't be taken advantage of. This generation will come down, in large measure, to development tools and the ability to efficiently harness the available horses.

If you want to declare victory based on specs, feel free. I, personally, find that little of my gaming time is spent playing specs.

            Re: XBOX 360: Initially UNDER-whelmed

I get tired of talking about specs.... Devz could never tap into the PS2`s EMOTION ENGINE and i`m sure devz won`t be able to take full advantage of the PS3`s CELL. And ofcourse devz still aren`t taking full advantage of the Xbx. So specs don`t mean that much... It still all boils down to games, in which I think Sony is winning in this department right now.

How so? Nobody's seen a PS3 game yet. Only tec demos. Are you basing this off exclusive franshises?

Granted that they are showing demo`s and rendered game footage, the games list is still stronger for PS3 than 360. This was expected though.... So i`m not surprised by it. Sony has allways had a great list of games for there machines. MS needs more first party support... For example, Ghost Reacon will be on the Ps3, as will most of there launch games.

                  Re: XBOX 360: Initially UNDER-whelmed

                  I'm with you.

For example, when multi-platform games come out now, or when XBox users have to wait a little longer for a limited-exclusive game like GTA, they can always fall back on the fact that the XBox game looks, better, loads faster, had more features, etc. since the XBox had the advantage in the hardware department.

Now, the XBox 360 is arguably even or behind the PS3 in terms of power, so the PS3 will now longer have cut-down versions of games like Splinter Cell. PS3 will arguably have the equal/best editions of games, plus all their exclusives.

I think Sony is at an advantage this time around because of the games. Other than Halo, and Perfect Dark, what first party titles can compete with the PS franchises?

In terms of sales or quality? I'm sure I don't speak for everyone, but Sony doesn't have a single franchise that interests me, and that includes GTA.

I'm speaking in terms of the masses, so sales, I guess. I've don't play any of the exclusives for any console except Halo.

All I'm saying is that, with the current gen, a lot of people prefer XBox because of its power over all other factors(Live is a little blip on the Radar outside of the hardcore segment, and PS3 will have a bigger harddrive). If the next-Gen sony promises better looking or equal versions of the multiplatform games(taking away one of XBox current strong-points), PLUS games that are proven huge sellers like MGS, Gran Turismo, GTA, etc. I think more people will go with a PS3, especially given its inclusion of a Blu-Ray drive.

is the PS3 shipping with a hard drive or is it optional? thought i saw in the specs that it was a removeable hard drive slot, so kinda worries me that we'd have to pay 100 bucks more or something

Same here- Halo is the only exclusive game I play. You're right, for people who play those exclusive games, the PS3 will be more attractive. But there are two things which might end up balancing that out- release date and price. If the Xbox has 9-12 months as the only next gen console on the market, and if it ends up being significantly less expensive thanks to its not supporting blu ray (which not many people are going to have much use for anytime soon), that could act as a significant deterrent for people who would, all things being equal, stick with Sony.

Whoops, thought it was included. If it is though, my point stands. Right Now, people think:

XBox: Hard Drive, Best Graphics, Live

PS2: More games, lesser but good graphics, exclusives, Backwards compatibility, Sony name(which does matter to many people)

The PS3 seems able to wipe out the current XBox advantages, minus Live, which many people(relatively) don't use anyway, while keeping it's exclusives advantage(in terms of sales). See how the PS3 seems like it has the advantage, especially to the average consumer?

Very true. I was only speaking from what we know at this point.

I think Blu-ray, just like the inclusion of memory slots(compact flash, etc.), can be huge for Sony.

Many kids/gamers sold their parents/themselves on the fact that the PS2 was not only a gaming device, but a DVD player out of the box(although you had to use the controller, and it sucked). That justified the price, to some in a psychological sense.

If people get excited about Blu-ray, and Sony includes the ability to, say, view slide shows from a memory card you took out of your digital camera and put into the PS3, parents and gamers looking for a larger entertainment solution can be swayed by this.

Seriously .... if we're talking "average consumer" the real advantage here is that Xbox 360 will be on the shelves this Xmas, and PS3 won't.

When the next generation launches, I don't know many "casual gamers" who will be interested in upgrading, but will hold out for a system with no forseeable release date. Anyone who is saying 'I'll hold out for Sony, because of xyz reason" is, by definition, not "casual".
