Which translates to about $465 US and $588 Canadian (taxes not included).

I can't say the price shocks me although that's a lot for a home console.

I wonder what's the ballpark figure for 360? I imagine it's going to be close to the PS3.

Xbox 360 will come in cheaper than that. That blu-ray drive is expensive. I would be suprise, if the PS3 launches at that price though. Seriously it's mass market suicide. Anylists predicted correctly, if it ends up being true, they said $400-$500.

No console priced over $350 has succeeded.

A $499 (without tax) price tag is expensive but a lot of people can still afford it.

Heck I bet you a lot OS'ers would glady pay that on launch day for the PS3.

It probably should be more, with Blu-ray player, 2 HDMI slots, CELL, XDR RAM, blue tooth technology, and all this is standard.

I wouldn't put to much stock into just yet, as the launch is still far off. Also the PS2 reatiled at a higher price in Japan and Europe, than in NA.

It's a drive (like a DVD drive), doesn't make games look better, just plays back movies in HD. The format also offers more space, but nobody has used up a dual layer DVD-9 yet. Microsoft and Nintendo know this that's why their going with standard DVD. Sony on the other hand has to use Blu-ray, because they have millions invested in it.

I sure hope they make this blu-ray drive last longer than a year, especially since its so expensive.

All the consoles will have a DVD drive, it's just Sony's will be able to play HD movies, assuming you have a HDTV.

Just might have to take a trip to bestbuy and check out the HDTV's.

only have like 250 extra cash as of now, but if it looks worthy, i can garner up 500 more bucks in a year.

yeah that's my limit. On launch day, I do not want to spend more than $600 to get a system, game, and extra controller. I imagine there will be $600 bundle deals to get you a nice launch package.

Not me. I definitely would hold out for a price drop because i'd already have the 360. I will not pay $540.25 tax included for a PS3 at launch.
