There's no way I would consider that kind of investment. If Sony thinks they are going to sell their system for over $100 more than the Xbox 360, they're going to get killed. Killed. I'm sure there will still be 20-35 year old men who will drop down the money for it, but they can forget about anyone under 18. No parent is paying that kind of money for their kid's videogaming.

I've gotta agree with the last few guys. If that does end up being the true price I will forget about getting a PS3.

I may look at a 360 but will most likely stick to the PC from now on.

EA makes most of their games for the PC anyway. I would miss NCAA but it's not worth that much too me.

I am sure there would be people that would buy it. But then there were people who bought the Jaguar and that died pretty quick.

I am hoping if that is the launch price that it would drop within a year but if not, I will be pretty much done with console gaming.

But, that's just me.

IMO, anything over $399 will make me think twice about a launch purchase only because you still have to figure in the cost of games and accessories that have to be purchased at the time the console is.

Meh....I have never paid over 300 bucks for a console. Never have, never will. I'm the patient type who can wait just a few months till they drop the price.

Just because it's stupid doesn't mean that it can't happen. Sony may overestimate the power of the Playstation brand. They may find that they have no choice but to sell at a higher price to offset development and production costs. They may decide that they can get away with gouging Japanese consumers but will need a competitive price in North America. It's too early to say.

I don't mind paying the money for it, but there has to be games out for it that I want. But right now, none of the launch games interest me. In the past 3 years, I have played NCAA Football, MVP Baseball, and High Heat on the XBox and PS2, all other games have been Nintendo licensed games on on the Cube. I have bought some games like the NBA and college basketball games, but they don't hold my interest for more than 3 weeks. I haven't played Madden since '02 and that was for a month maybe. None of those games get the play time like NCAA Football and MVP baseball get which is like 5 or 6 months each. So it is entirely possible that I won't get a next gen console until next summer when a next-gen NCAA Football game comes out. I really want one of these new consoles, but I'm not going to throw that kind of money down for launch games that might interest me for a month because they look neat. I don't have a problem paying the money, if the games I want to play are there, but right now, the launch games aren't for me.

Agree which is why im getting a PS3. The XBOX has great games without a doubt but I like MLB by 989 and can't see myslef playing any other baseball game. For me it comes down to which system makes games the I like. Onto buying the PS3, only way i'd pay that much is if MLB is a launch title for it. If not than i'll wait for when NCAA Football comes otu for PS3 and get it then.

I completely agree with you... and that's why the price won't be too much more. Some of these comments about $500-$600 are silly.

If the base system is more than $400, I will seriously think twice. If they get me a bundle with some other accessories (2nd controller, blah blah blah) for $450 I'll bite. But they better be REALLY careful at that price point... I'm not going to easily shell out half a G for a game system that seems slightly better than the X360.

I can't say that I would by a system over $300 either, maybe $350 but that's pushing it. $400-$500 is just too much; I could get a new computer for that.

I sure hope that these are just over-estimates like most of the other recent launches. Other wise I will probably just wait until a price drop, which is what I have done with just about every other system I've bought.
