Re: New Game: STRANGLEHOLD w/ Chow Yun-Fat

Here are my thoughts on the game after beating it. I found the game pretty fun up until chapter 3 or 4. It was at this point forward that the level of difficulty ramps up and the game just becomes a mindless shooter.

And as with all mindless shooters an increase in difficulty just means that the player has to fight gigantic hordes of enemies that attack from all sides and usually come at you with body armor and stronger weapons. This just causes the player to retort to either spamming the tequila time, diving like an idiot, or using the tequila bombs. Not to mention the boss battles were really cheap and can sometimes require some luck to beat especially on the higher difficulty levels.

Now this increase in "difficulty" would have been easier deal with if the cover system worked more effectively but sadly it doesn't because, it only protects you for a few seconds. Then what makes matters worse is that enemies usually don't attack from just one area they like to attack from all sides of the room, so it can make taking cover pretty useless.

What I loved about the demo was that I could study the environment and figure out many creative ways to take out enemies. Like for instance theres a point in the demo where you can slide down a rail take out 4 enemies by dropping huge signs on their head then you can dive onto a sliding cart and take out the remaining enemies. That element of creativity was taken away once the "difficulty" was ramped up because trying to do things like that would usually just be a waste of time because you would just be leaving yourself open to enemies.

So my recommendation for anyone looking to get this game is to either rent it or buy it at a cheap price because in my opinion its not worth full retail price. Now it does have some fun moments so for a person that loves mindless shooters this will be a great game. But if your not that type gamer its still a fun game but just don't come into the game with high expectations because it may disappoint.

Yeah, I just beat the game, and I'd say it's perfect for a rental. It may be fun to play through it a second time on a harder difficulty level or to try and unlock some of the achivements you missed the first time through, but it doesn't seem like it has much lasting value past that.

yeah, I rented it too, and the achievements look damn easy as well.

fire 10k times? that's like by the 3rd level.

I finished this game last night. I really liked the story and the gameplay was cool, but after awhile it did get kind of repetitve. The last 3 levels were short compared to the first set of levels. I think that this is where some of the balance of the game could have been better.

Midway should have added a driving level or two, like they did with the helicoptor stage that they added where you were in the heli shooting at guys. It helps break up the action.

If a sequel ever gets made, hopefully they add a few things.

This was still a fun experience.

I've been hearing a lot of this. I'm glad I didnt pick it up new, as I think i'll be able to get it used pretty cheap here in a couple of months, which is where I think I'll get the most bang for my buck. Still playing the demo though, and its still fun as hell.

This is worth a rental at the most or when it drops in price..........its a fun game, but it does get to be too much by the end. Like I stated earlier, variety was the one thing that was missing.

fun level. I believe it's 2 levels left.

Wish I had beaten it, but due to my work schedule, I wasn't able to beat it before I had to return it to hollywood video.

I traded in some old games today and picked this up for $20 new on the PS3. I hope I enjoy this, as I've heard lots of good things, but there seems to be alot of people who did not care for it.

I finally got around to playing this game... well at least the first two levels. The story seems like it might be pretty good, but the gameplay is so repetititve and boring that it killed me. I threw it back in the mailbox this morning, I can't even bring myself to get through it.
