Electronic Swiss Army Knife? LMAO, PK, you cvome up with some funny analogies sometimes. I feel the same way about my gaming machine. Its not like this is 5 years ago when dvd players were still in the upper hundreds. You can find a decent machine for 30 bucks nowadays. All I want my console to do is play games.

Someone needs to tell Sony that. People will be in line to get the next gen gaming system, not the next hometheatercdplayermp4ipodminiwegaplaystation.

Seriously, arent we anticipating the games? I dont even know anyone with 2 HDTV's in the same room, and hardly know many with just one.

Exactly. And I don't want to pay for the machine to be able to use linux, I have no use for it and I already have a computer.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

Also consider this: not only might the 360 drop in price when the PS3 comes out....but Halo 3 is supposed to release the same day as the PS3 machine (according to Uncle Bill). That would be a two punch combo that would hurt.

I was just going to write the same thing.

Has anyone looked at the sales of the PSP? If I am not mistaken, the DS is selling more units in comparison. Although it is a great handheld, it is way overpriced. I bought one and returned it in a month, my hands were killing with the placement of the joystick.

Sony is getting very greedy and this could be the end of their dominance in the industry.

Don't surprised if a few free months of live are included with Halo 3 as well. Bill will do what ever it takes to beat the competition.

Imagine this scenario. The PS3 launches at $399. Don't forget, the Hard-Drive is sold seperately for probably $100 (same price as the PS2 hard-drive initially sold for). That makes for a $500 sticker price. Now, imagine that MS counters this by lowering the Xbox 360 price to $249. Both consoles will be pretty equal in overall gaming power. Now, which console will sell more?

What'll really make it a knock out punch is if 12 free months of Live came with half the shipments of Halo disc. With that, the price and Halo, anyone who still would want a PS3 has gotta be a fanboy.

MS has a huge lead over Sony in online games, online interface, online performance, etc., etc.

I actually really enjoy PS2 online. It's probably because I have a bunch of friends that all have it, and we just call each other to get on.

But the 360 is starting to look like the winner. $50 a year isn't too bad . . . so what, I buy 1 less game a year to make up for it? Big deal, in the end.

The reason why I didn't go XBOX this generation, though, is because I really liked the FREE PS2 online service on the console that I had bought on launch day (when it was finally online). Wasn't worth the effort to swtich when my friends all were on PS2, as well.

Now I'm going to tell every one to get 360, so we can be on the same platform again.

while I'm not going to go out and talk bad about PS3 like many in this thread I still can't wait for the 360 to drop. As for the sale numbers this is what I found... albeit just in Japan http://www.gamespot.com/news/2005/06...s_6128046.html

I'm still pretty sure the PSP is outselling the DS state side but I couldn't find any info on that.

Actually Graphik, Microsoft said it will have XBox Live free on weekends when the 360 drops. Really no need for giving away 12 months free with that.

I don't know how long it will last though.

On the contrary, the free XBOX Live might still be limited where you don't get the sweet perks of the subscription. Plus, only a certain number of games will be free on the weekend which is MS's choice. Like, if they chose not to have NBA 2K6 free for one weekend, then you're short. You can download stuff and all but you won't be able to do what you would if you had the other one. I think you can better match peope like you. I don't know all the perks but it's clearly a difference between the two. I'll look at them....

I was planning on buying both systems, but with the price of the PS3 being so high, I may just stick with the 360.

Re: PS3 to sell for $399, cost $494 to make

Both systems will be great, as are the PS2 and the XBox. I have both systems now (my brother recently gave me his PS2 so I could play MLB), but I chose the XBox strictly for the harddrive.

I think the memory card is the biggest rip off in video game history. If you wanted to keep multiple saves for each game, you will have to buy 1 memory card per every 2 games or so. This is the case with sports franchises at least.

So for me, there is no way I can justify paying $500 for a video game system, when I can play the same games (except for exclusives like MLB ) on another system for $150-$200 cheaper.

If all things were equal (specifically hard drive and price), I would have probably gone with the PS3. I only play sports games and since MLB is an exclusive, the PS3 would have the advantage for me.

Hopefully I can pick up the PS3 in 2007 if the price drops.
