lol Silent Hill was cake compared to Fatal Frame... but SH was definitely scary.

If I had to compare them, SH was "OMG" look around the room turn on the lights scary.

Fatal Frame was I'm selling my video game system, calling a friend and walking outside for a cigarette (even if you don't smoke) scary. You had to turn that damn game off and get away.

Of course, all of this pertains to the necessary environment when playing these games: alone, in the dark and very late.

I tried it during the day lol too much glare, couldn't see anything (i think they did that on purpose)

Silent Hill (the original on psx) was the first game I literally refused to play unless I was accompanied by a friend or family member

fatal frame takes the cake.. the premise of the game may sound cheesy (snap a flick to kill ghosts) but trust me, it's much more than that.. that game EPITOMIZES the term "Survival Horror"

Yeah, the premise sounds completely lame.... yet, they somehow pulled it off.

I think the First Person thing is what set it off.... I remember looking in a room, turning around, and seeing this damn ghost coming at me... so I had to turn around and run for the door, but it was locked... then you look back... and the ghost is still walking towards you.. slowly, then fast... and there's nothing you can do until the ghost actually gets to you... then the whole sequence just stops.

You're left wondering what the hell just happened. Epic game.

LOL....I will have to check that game out just to see how is freaks me out...LOL

But the scariest moment for me in video game history has been RE2 on PS2 when you are walking in that mansion and the damm dogs jump out the window....

That is something I dont ever forget to this day....

What other gaming moments have freaked you guys out.....made you wish you did not play it anymore....

ran under the bed type of thing...LOL

that was RE on PS1

I don't think the REmake on the gamecube recreated that scene well but on the original PSx, that was a true "HOLY _____" moment.

Don't let that rather disappointing comparison to Resident Evil 4 fool you. Coming second to one of the best games of our generation is nothing to be sniffed at, and Resident Evil 5 is still a game that does the series proud. With a whole heap of content to unlock, including the brilliant Mercenaries mode (playable cooperatively off and online), a campaign that begs to be replayed and top of the line production values there's very little to be disappointed with. If you've read all that and the first thing in your mind is "but you can't move and shoot?" this isn't for you, but everyone else should grab a friend and enter the world of not quite so much survival horror.

My friend said the same thing. I loved that moment (RE1) but for some reason, the first time ever seeing the spider sitting up on the ceiling in that same hallway killed me.

Then, it dropped down... and raised it's front legs and came after you.... Still get shivers thinking about it today!

Another part that was freaky was seeing the guy who wast eaten by the Ravens/Birds. That was some hardcore stuff for video games back then.

Agree the dogs would get me every time, even if I knew they were coming.

That was awesome.

With them rebooting this franchise after RE5, hopefully the creepiness factor of the franchise returns whenever the next title releases.

No doubt, that f'n scared the hell out of me. Combine that with the kinda stiff controls and you had me running into walls trying to get the hell out lol.

Not many games since have generated that type of scare
