I doubt there will be a RE5 Reboot. I'm under the assumption that the series itself will be rebooted to something different in RE6.Comment

Yeah, that is the rumor that RE6 is going to be a reboot of the franchise. So this could be interesting to see which direction they take.Comment

Re: Resident Evil 5 announced for Xbox 360 & PS3
So are they going to take it from Action Game to Survival Horror again?
Honestly I was a bigger RE Fan when it was more Survival Horror a la 1-3 than I was with RE 4. I didn't like the transition to more "action based" gameplay.
Just my two cents...Comment

And for this very reason alone,I will wait for a price drop on this one.
When I think "Resident Evil" I think back to the first ones on the ps1,I don't like the direction of the past 2 RE's.People are for reviews if it backs their argument, and against them when they don't.“I believe the game is designed to reward the ones who hit the hardest – If you can’t take it, you shouldn’t play!” Jack Lambert“Quarterbacks should wear dresses.” Jack LambertComment

Re: Resident Evil 5 announced for Xbox 360 & PS3
I tried it during the day lol too much glare, couldn't see anything (i think they did that on purpose)
Silent Hill (the original on psx) was the first game I literally refused to play unless I was accompanied by a friend or family member
@~Guru~
fatal frame takes the cake.. the premise of the game may sound cheesy (snap a flick to kill ghosts) but trust me, it's much more than that.. that game EPITOMIZES the term "Survival Horror"
If Fatal Frame is that much worse than silent Hill then I know I might as well not even bother. I tried Silent HIll and I don't think I lasted 10 minutes into that one before I 100% punked out. That was some creepy ****.
RE: Nemesis gave me some jumpy moments though, I made it through that no prob. But the whole mood of those Silent Hill games....so creepy.PS: You guys are great.

Re: Resident Evil 5 announced for Xbox 360 & PS3
Eurogamer: Face-Off: Resident Evil 5
Capcom's Framework MT engine uses some very useful tricks in maintaining image quality. It runs at native 720p, and employs the use of full-on 4x multisampling anti-aliasing on Xbox 360, while using the 2x Quincunx technique on PS3. On a like-for-like basis, this means that the 360 has clearer visuals (2x QAA blurs every texture) but edge-smoothing is very similar. The cleverness kicks in when the engine is stressed. Rather than drop frames, the engine tones down the anti-aliasing instead. According to Capcom's own figures, this can result in a 20 per cent performance boost when the game needs it. The idea here is that the gameplay is sufficiently intense that you won't notice a momentary reduction in edge-smoothing. So on Xbox 360, it's reduced from 4x down to 2x, before being removed completely. On PS3, however, the Quincunx effect is either on, or off.
As it happens, Killzone 2 uses exactly the same technique. However, things are slightly odd on the PS3 version of Resident Evil 5 in that the anti-aliasing can turn on and off again at any given point, seemingly when the engine seemingly isn't being stressed at all.As you might expect, the water is a key element of this particular stage and you'll note that the PS3 version of Resident Evil 5 is flatter and duller, with fewer reflections. The Xbox 360 version on the hand has full world reflections, making this stage in particular rather more attractive than its counterpart on the Sony platform. It's a similar compromise to that seen on the PS3 version of Fallout 3, where once again 360 has more detailed and realistic water reflections.
Also evident is that the Xbox 360 version has more in the way of incidental particle effects and transparent alpha textures (i.e. smoke). For example, in the main video edit you saw how Chris Redfield takes down a speeding lorry that's hurtling towards him. On 360, there are friction-esque sparks and a proper exploding windscreen that you don't see on PS3.Capcom has taken two entirely different approaches to the frame rate on both platforms with Resident Evil 5. Contrary to early interviews with Capcom, the game isn't running at 60fps, instead operating at the more usual 30fps, albeit with some frame-blending in effect to make it look perceptually smoother. Overall, this effect works well.
The major difference is that Xbox 360 runs with v-lock disengaged, while the PlayStation 3 code has absolutely no tearing whatsoever. However, similar to Grand Theft Auto IV - which operates in the same way - the Xbox 360 version has a tangible advantage here on two fronts. Firstly, it drops far fewer frames than the PS3 code, and secondly, the response from the controls is significantly crisper, particularly when the environments are chockfull of opponents. And again, similar to GTAIV, while the tearing is there, it's pretty much unnoticeable in gameplay (cut-scenes are another matter). The 360's screen-tear is at its most noticeable here, as you might expect from an engine that is being stressed to its limits. PS3 works better as a result - dropped frames aren't so noticeable when you're not in control, and the rock solid v-lock means a more coherent image.
Why concentrate on the cinematics? A couple of reasons: firstly you get to see what Capcom's engine is capable of in strictly controlled conditions (a vast series of tech demos if you will) but more than that, there is an assumption here that greater GPU power and memory in the next console generation should allow for this level of visual fidelity to be run in gameplay, probably at 1080p too. Now that's something to look forward to.In terms of just why Xbox 360 has the edge technically, it seems to be all come down to the set-up of the graphics hardware. Capcom itself rates the triple-core Xenon CPU as being about equal to a dual-core 3.2GHz Pentium 4 Extreme Edition CPU. Not a bad processor as such, but no match for the raw computational power of Cell. However, Capcom has made extensive use of the 10MB of 'EDRAM' that is directly attached to the Xenos GPU in order to maximise its visual effects. With virtually unlimited bandwidth, effects can be processed enormously quickly. The Cell/RSX combo doesn't have this advantage, although ironically, the PS2's graphics synthesiser does - one of the reasons why full software emulation of the older console is difficult on the PlayStation 3.
What is clear is that while first-party developers are pushing the Sony hardware to new graphical heights for this generation, third-party multi-format game-makers are still having issues replicating Xbox 360 performance. That we should see this from a developer as accomplished as Capcom, whose home market sales are so reliant on PS3, is both surprising and a touch disappointing.Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment

IGN: Resident Evil 5: Hil's Take
RE5 is certainly not the best Resident Evil game. In fact, if it weren't for the returning characters, it really wouldn't be a Resident Evil game at all. But it is a great action game. And for my money, it's more enjoyable than Gears of War 2 with a superior version of Horde mode (in the form of Mercenaries mode) and with a longer shelf life than a lot of recent action titles. While I'd love to see Capcom create a true horror game again, that clearly wasn't the goal here. Take RE5 for what it is--pure action--and you'll be pleased.Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment

I just ordered it on Amazon today after realizing it was one of the games that has free release-date shipping for Prime members. (I really hope Amazon starts to do this with more and more games in the future, it's an awesome perk for Prime members).I won't ask for Christmas or birthday gifts if you subscribe to the Operation Sports Newsletter (Not Just Another Roster Update). I write it, and it hits your inbox every Friday morning (for freeeeeee). We also have an official OS Discord you can now join.Comment

Resident Evil 5 DLC adds new online multiplayer modes
Capcom has (accidentally?) revealed information about the game's upcoming DLC through newly uploaded Trophies. The DLC appears to introduce a number of new online modes: Slayers, Survivors, Team Slayers, Team Survivors and Versus. It's not exactly clear what these modes entail, but they appear to be competitive modes. "Team Survivors" gives us hope that Capcom is working on a co-operative mode inspired by Left 4 Dead.Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment

Re: Resident Evil 5 announced for Xbox 360 & PS3
I still need to play the demo (too many new games out lately), but is it really a departure from the RE formula? Everything I read says "it's an awesome game, just not really a RE game".
What made RE awesome (to me) was the fact it was slow paced, you barely had any ammo (sucky at times, but added to the scare/worry factor...did you have enough ammo to handle what could pop out), and just scare the ish out of you survival horror game.
This sounds like a cool action game with ugly/horrific enemies, but not really "scary" per se. I'll eventually play it, but with The Show and Empire I just don't have the time right now.
I guess I'm kinda disappointed that the "scare the crap out of you" we used to have in the horror game genre (RE, Silent Hill) is gone...I know RE still doesn't let you run and shoot at the same time, but we're moving more towards "scary halo" and it's sad.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment
