    Re: Backwards compatibility news today

Apparently some insiders got hold of the list, and they say it's a very "healthy" list of games. Much more than Halo, Halo 2, and Fable.

I was under the impression that as long as you had the hard drive, that you could play all x-box games. Is this not the case?

No, that is not the case. Only certain games will be BC at launch. We're still waiting on the list.

I can't believe the xbox isn't completely backwards compatible. Surely they'll fix that.

            Why?

In about nine months I won't want to play any original XBox game ever again and I think that is what MS is hoping/expecting for the majority of gamers.

It's not that simple. MS change from NVidia to ATI chipset (I think I'm correct there) so it's a little more complicated.
Either way I have my XBOX still so it doesn't matter to me.
PS2 has backwards compatibility yet I maybe used that feature 2% of the time.

Hopefully the games that are bwc get the same treatment(HD upgrade) as Halo and Halo 2.

From what I understand MS has to pay royalties to Nvidia to be able to emulate the old Nvidia chip.

The list should be up within an hour.

BWC isn't even on my list for reasons to buy/not-buy a system anymore. I thought the PS2 being able to play PS1 games would be fun, but the PS1 games ended up collecting dust until I sold everything for an XBOX.

BWC means very little after a system comes out IMO.

                          Should be up on Xbox.com

Other sites like IGN and Gamespot will probally put it up just after.

Lots of games, but it lacks all the Splinter Cell's, Panzer, Jet Set Radio, no MVP 2005, no ESPN NFL 2K5, etc. Ah well, hopefully over time they become compatible. Shocking to see some horrible games there over high quality ones.

They'll be adding more as the weeks and months pass.

Wow, that list is terrible. Looks like I'll be holding on to my Xbox longer than expected.
