Yeah, but if you think this paucity of BC top-drawer Xbox titles isn't a ploy by Microsoft, then I have oceanfront property in Nebraska to sell you.

Of course, MS isn't going to make titles like PGR 2 and Madden BC. Why would it? That only would dissuade some people from buying those titles at $60 per per ($50 for PGR 3) for the 360.

MS' strategy is quite simple here. Release a long list of BC titles so it appears that MS is the gamer's friend, even if 90 percent of those titles are sheer tripe. Over the next six months to a year, MS will add more titles to the list, including some Grade-A games.

But by then, those who have purchased Xbox 360s at or near launch will have a big enough library of 360 titles that BC won't interest them that much and it won't be nearly as much of a factor.

So MS appears to be the gamer's advocate through this whole thing even though this entire BC exercise is a mix of PR and profit, with a pinch of gaming benevolence thrown in.

    Take care,
    PK

This list in an embarassment and a ****ing insult to their customers. Nice one Microsoft.

Espn football and the splinter cell series should of been on that list.

One final thought. I'm no Sony fanboy, as I've been an Xbox-only gamer since 2002. But wasn't EVERY PSX game backward compatible with the PS2 at launch?

Why did Sony have no problem offering complete backward compatibility between console generations, yet MS gives us a mediocre list of aged games? We're supposed to be stoked out of our minds about this?

          Sorry, I expected more.

I really feel bad for those who bought a lot of quality Xbox new releases over the last two or three months, figuring they could play them on their Xbox 360 at launch. MS just gave those gamers acupuncture up the dirt chute.

I think that the architecture of the ps1 and ps2 was more similar than that of the xbox and the 360. That's just my guess on the BC issue. I do think the list is a little disappointing, but I believe it will grow by a lot very soon. I thought it was a nice touch to see Half Life 2 on there, hopefully more upcoming and recent titles will be added soon, such as Blitz the League, the Burnout series and Black.

I'm really not that upset, disappointed probably the right word. But just like with my PS2, I know that once I get the 360 games, my current gen games will probably just start collecting dust and/or serve as coasters.

EDIT: Really miss the podcast btw, PK

Emulation profiles have to be built for every single game that will be backwards compatible. That list is what will ship on the hard drive from what I understand. If you don't have a HD or memory card then you won't be able to play any legacy XBox games on the 360. More profiles will be available via XBox Live as they become available.

The 360 is using ATI hardware while the XBox used nVIDIA. It isn't as easy as what the difference was between the PS1 and PS2.

man, no winning eleven 8, but looks like 9 will be backwards. My biggest problem is no NFL 2k5!

I don't think they could make that much worse. They put Buffy 2 on the list my god, anyone knows the only good one was number 1!!

First off, I'm no programmer, but the PSX was 32-bit; the PS2 was 128-bit. That's a pretty big jump in architecture, I would think, and Sony made everything BC.

Thanks for the podcast compliment. Yeah, this BC list would have been material for a nuclear rant.

It's completely different hardware PK. I'm no programmer either, but alot of people alot smarter than me have outlined the issues behind the BWC. Google it and you should get some better explained answers.

The graphics chipset is the issue at hand. They went from nvidia to ATI.
Also Sony had to drop the Emotion Chip to get BC to work
